I guess I'm lucky in that I don't get too many flats, so I haven't had a chance to see if my 10 year old mini-pump is in working order. Well, today I found out it's not working, grrr. Good thing I was in a spot that I could easily give my wife directions to find me. So curious what everybody's preference is; mini-pump or CO2? I don't have much experience with CO2 so looking for any suggestions.

CO2.  I carry two on every ride, 3 if it is a really long (100+ mile) ride.

I'd like to say mini-pump because it is more green, but CO2 is faster and I can get better pressure.

I use a 16 gm threaded cartridge with simple screw-on valve, similar to this one

Micropump (ex. Blackburn AirStick SL or similar)

-Small (fits in my water bottle flat kit or a jersey pocket)

-Light (50g)

-Foolproof (works for multiple flats so I'm sure to get home)

-PITA to pump tires (about 300 strokes to get to 90psi), but I only flat about 1x/year. Borrow someone else's pump if it's a group ride.

I have a mini pump on one bike, and screw type CO2 3 cartriges on the other bike.

no preferance here but just what was availible on sale at the time I was looking to buy.

I carry a pretty cool Crank Brothers mini pump with me in a jersey pocket in training, but only CO2 and inflater for races.

I carry two C02's.  If I ride by myself (very unusual), I usually don't stray too far off the beaten path so I am either within close proximity to a store or could call my wife if needed.

When we do group rides out in the middle of nowhere, well same thing.  Carry 1 tube and 2 C02.  Between us we probably have 10 tubes and 20 C02 cartridges so we are all set.  If we need more than that to get someone home we have other issues

Same in a race other than an IM.  In an IM I will carry 2 tubes and 3 C02.  Also put one of each in SN bag.

CO2 in my saddle bag always.  If I remember, I stick an itty-bitty handpump in my jersey pocket for training rides.

pump for everyday riding. Its green and Im in no rush.

CO2 only when racing and time is critical. Training although possibly critical there is no real penalty to losing 5 minutes to pump your tire back up

I carry my hand pump twist tied to my bike but I found the pump doesn't work so well  or maybe I'm using it wrong. . I might change to a CO2, we'll see.

x2, except I carry three C02 cartridges because I have had issues in the past with premature release

Blackburn AirFix CO2 Inflation System/Multi-Tool. I've had to use it more than once and been happy I had it.

Thanks all.

Surprised nobody said frame pump. Several years ago I was on a group ride and flatted. There was an old timer on an old steel frame bike with frame pump. Of course the first impression of him was "Wow, look at that old rig, who would ride like that". Well he was the one that helped me with the flat and that frame pump probably worked faster than any CO2 pump. And of course he was a frick'n hammer on that old steel rig; I was bleeding from the eyes riding his wheel while we caught back on to the group.

CO2 but learn how to use it before you get a flat.

I use one of these:

http://www.performancebike.com/bikes/Product_10052_10551_1031024_-1___400167

I like it cause it uses 16g or 12g CO2, threaded or unthreaded.  Basically I could go anywhere to find cartridges.

I've had it for 3 years, but never used it.  Bought it the week after getting a flat in a race without anything, and haven't had a flat since.  But now that I said that, I'll get one on the ride home tonight...
