Pre-race routine:

Breakfast - toast and PB

Register at arena in Watford. Board bus to Alvinston arena.
Event warmup:

Comments:

I started too hard. I was running 8min/mile, instead of my usual 9.
I tried to slow the pace, but if I did I couldn't keep stride.

I kept the pace fairly well until the hills. They killed me, and humbled me back to 9-9:30 min/mile pace.

The whole race was into a 15-20km headwind. It was cold, and discouraging.

I wanted to finish in less than 1:40.
If I did very well I would have finished in 1:30.
I finished faster than that. I was really happy.
What would you do differently?:

Start slower, try to maintain a constant pace through the race, or maybe even negative split.

Warm down:

Walk around the arena with my wife.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

I haven't been running much lately due to hip problems.


Event comments:

A nicely run race, put on by the local Optimist club to raise money for the community. Well worth attending.

Course: Arena in Alvinston to arena in Watford along highway 79 (Navoo Rd) First 8k flat, second 8k some rolling hills with the last being one very steep overpass about 1k from the finish.
