Pre-race routine:

I wasn't planning on racing, but I got all my training done early (99mi. Friday and 16.5mi. run Sat), so I decided to sign up ~8:40am race morning.

I had most of my stuff but had to borrow cash from K, a race belt from Steve, and a CO2 valve and race jersey from Schaller.
Event warmup:

Running around getting everything out of the car and set up.
Swim
  • 12m 36s
  • 820 yards
  • 01m 32s / 100 yards
Comments:

Good swim. Started right on the buoy line since it was wide open. I had to push to stay on the feet of one guy. Had no idea where I was in relation to anyone else though.
What would you do differently?:

nothing
Transition 1
  • 01m 42s
Comments:

I've been getting dizzy when I stop at my bike in t1 the last few races. I'm not sure if it's running too hard out of the water or something else, but it makes t1 fairly slow and difficult. As soon as I start running with the bike I feel fine again though.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing.

Comments:

I was able to hold my ground and only have 1 person pass me. I was catching a decent number of the under 30 guys from the wave in front of me, but not a lot of M35-39 so I didn't know if they were way out in front.
What would you do differently?:

Bring my aero helmet.
Transition 2
  • 00m 40s
Comments:

Great transition. Top-5 in the race.
What would you do differently?:

Comments:

I was really looking forward to the run. The course was tough. I love trail running, but even for me this was tough. Big pieces of gravel and all over the place. Felt good to push though and was happy with the run. Lots of support out on the course with teammates screaming.
That was awesome.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing.

Event comments:

Good race. Run was dicey, but with the last minute venue change, everything else was incredibly smooth. Set-up does a really good job.

Nicely done!  That was pretty awesome to just race on a whim like that.  You had the pre-race breakfast of champions.  Good seeing you.
