Pre-race routine:

Stayed at Red House Inn - THE bed & breakfast in town. Ate breakfast with Chris Carmichael (his CTS franchise just opened in Brevard and were a main sponsor of the ride). Chilled & met by brother-in-law at the start line about .4 mile from the inn.

Comments:

Felt good and was a tad faster than normal up until CH. About 1 mile in my back seized up and from then on it was a matter of hanging on for dear life. Slower than normal going up CH and bringing it back home meant for a long day in the saddle. The back spasms/cramps caused a kinetic chain reaction that basically shut me down. And I don't think I was eating/drinking well either and maybe that contributed. But other than that the ride was great: well organized, good SAG, fun post-race activities, beautiful weather, challenging course.
What would you do differently?:

Get a better lower back. Thanks, genetics.
Post race
Warm down:

Chill at finish line with BIL before rolling back to B&B to clean up, nap, then chill with the wife.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Lower back.

Event comments:

Great fun ride that the town definitely gets involved with.
