Pre-race routine:

This race was not chip timed, I am getting the splits from my Garmin data
Swim
  • 04m 46s
  • 250 yards
  • 01m 55s / 100 yards
Transition 1
  • 01m 9s
Bike
  • 29m 16s
  • 10 miles
  • 20.50 mile/hr
Comments:

Was nervous since bike went through some very questionable neighborhoods. I was bib #1 so I went first in the swim and was out of the pool first and was out front all by myself the entire bike, did not like having nobody to follow, and almost got lost a few times. No volunteers on the bike course, so had to actually stop at intersections. Also, if someone wanted to cheat and cut the course, plenty of U-turns to do so.
Transition 2
  • 01m 18s
Run
  • 15m 23s
  • 2 miles
  • 07m 41s  min/mile
Comments:

During this run I was so frustrated I almost stopped running to walk back to transition. Once again, I was out in front by myself the entire time so I was getting lost. I could only jog because if I started running I would miss one of the many confusing turns that were only marked with caulk arrows. Once again, I was all alone with no one to follow and I didn't see a single other racer on the course. Also to note there were also plenty of opportunities to cut the course just like on the bike. Finally managed to find the last turn and cross the finish line. The race director congratulated me on the overall win, along with several other volunteers.
Post race
Warm down:

I went back to the stretch of road that leads to the finish line to cheer on the other competitors. About 5 minutes later the next competitor crossed the finish line, and joined me to cheer everyone else on. Something strange happened at the awards. Since I was out in front the whole race by myself, and crossed the finish line first, and was the first in the water, I had thought I won. Especially being all alone not having seen any other competitors the whole race. According to the results, I came in 1 minute behind the winner. So I got the age group win.
