Master 1946 | Subject: RE: Anyone ever jump out of a plane? Yes..once...and I have motion sickness & hate heights and I loved it...it was SUCH a rush I drank pitcher of beer & talked for hours afterwards..It was a LONG time ago now..the "safety" at the time I now know was way questionable but I didn't focus on that at the time..solo after a 13" screen video in a trailer & a practice jump off a glorified swing set.. Would I go again..oh yeah! |

Elite 3067 Cheesehead, WI | Subject: RE: Anyone ever jump out of a plane? I have a fear of heights so naturally thought jumping out of a plane would cure that! It was a long day of training with the jump at the end. We piled into little planes then jumped solo out into glorious sun and clouds over mostly farm fields. However, I will say that when I actually jumped out of the door...I wish someone had filmed my first 10 seconds of falling... 'mouth open but so scared no scream was even able to get out of my lungs" HAAAA! It was a piece of cake after that and frankly I think I was more stressed out than warranted. And yes, still have a fear of heights...but its a little better I guess. But won't likely want to sleep with tarantulas to get over my fear of spiders though. |

Champion 9430 No excuses! | Subject: RE: Anyone ever jump out of a plane? me and some buddies did solo jumps for his 21st b-day. Took a 8 hr class, signed my life away 2000 times and then it started to rain. Waited another hour and finally got our chance. Loved every second of it!! |

Didnt want to get out of the plane but luckily the guy strapped to my back had other ideas. The freefall was amazing (90 seconds at our height). Once he pulled the chute I started getting motion sickness, threw up when I got to the ground |

Buttercup 14334 | Subject: RE: Anyone ever jump out of a plane? I was pretty calm the whole flight up to the jump level. When they opened the door and the air blasted in, I let out a scream. Kind of a WHAAAAA and WHOOOOOT mix. The guy I tandem'd with asked me what I wanted to do when we jumped out of the plane. What do you mean? I want to land safely, that's what I want to do. He asked if I wanted to somersault, etc. I'm jumping out of a perfectly good airplane - I don't think it matters what we do when we jump out. So we did all kinds of flips and whatnot before he leveled us out. Like it made a difference! I remember it was a little difficult to breathe for the first 30-60 seconds, just from the pressure of the air rushing at me. After that, it was just really cool. We landed in the bulls-eye on the ground at the DZ. Easy peasy. I have the video. I think I'll try to find it. |

As long as we didn't spin around with so many flips and somersaults that I'd get woozy. |

It is helping me get excited for the jump....Today was the big day and also a BIG CLOUD day! So, the jump was postponed until next week. Oh well, one more week! I hear that! I finally jumped yesterday, soooooo fun and worth the wait! I was rained out twice and winded out once. last week the weather was just horrific so we didn't even try. Yesterday however was PERFECT. Go early, first jump of the day normally makes it as the winds and clouds seem to pick up as the day goes on (at least around here). |

Pro 4578 Vancouver, BC | Subject: RE: Anyone ever jump out of a plane? Yes, once. At least 10 years ago. It wasn't a tandem jump, instead a pilot chute was thrown out of the plane that opened my chute. The experience in the air was awesome. I had a bit of a hiccup landing as my jumpsuit was too large and it kind of pulled me down and I'm pretty short, so I couldn't reach the brakes on one of the risers to disengage it. Sorry it was a long time ago, so maybe I don't have the terminology quite right. Anyway, I was able to just pull on the riser to brake and the other brake worked fine, so I landed safely, but pretty far off of the target. I probably would never do it again. If the opportunity was there maybe, and I enjoyed it, but like others here, I just don't have the desire to do it again. Edited by jeng 2012-04-23 3:23 PM |

Extreme Veteran 499 Racine WI | Subject: RE: Anyone ever jump out of a plane? In Platka FL (we called it Splatka, sick humor), going to Navy school in Jacksonville in 1986 and our instructor at the school was a jumpmaster and talked a few of us students into jumping on the weekend. Did the 6 hour instruction course and made first jump as a static line jump. I remember being the last guy out on the wing, looking back in at the jump master having him yell Go Go Go and letting go of the airplane wing, as I was drifting downward and away from the airplane, I saw him exit out of the airplane and zip by me right as my chute opened. It was pretty crazy. Only have six jumps, fifth one was a major chute malfuntion with a line over and endcell collapse, tried shaky it out two or three times and decided "its garbage"! Cut it away, watch my reserve chute delploy and made a safe landing. Went over, hugged the guy who packed my reserve chute, bought him a bottle of Jack and shared it with him later that night. Made my sixth and final jump the next day, just to say "ha f#@& you garbage chute", never made it back and got transferred to Maine not long after. Too cold to jump there and just never got back into it, thought about doing a tandem once or twice though. Good luck, have a great jump, it'll be the rush of your life!! |

Las Vegas | Subject: RE: Anyone ever jump out of a plane? I've got about 70 solo freefall jumps, and 80-something static line jumps from various civilian and military aircraft. As a matter of fact, I jumped twice today from a UH-1 Huey. Both static line, great exits with my knees in the breeze, and the best part: two good landings. One more benefit: I got paid a little extra for it too. I have a tough job sometimes. Jumping is amazing, thrilling, terrifying, relaxing, stressful, and a whole host of other emotions. For your first, the only advice I will give: don't forget to open your eyes! “Once you have tasted flight, you will forever walk the earth with your eyes turned skyward, for there you have been, and there you will always long to return." -Leonardo Da Vinci |
