Got lost and missed the parkinglot entrance twice.

Swim
  • 56m 44s
  • 2112 yards
  • 02m 41s / 100 yards
Comments:

Though I've done a lot of outdoor swimming/racing, I'm never good at finding a good draft so I often make my own course. Usually I good wide to keep away from all the speed freaks. However, all these people kept swim over my when I was 10+yds off the buoys!!!

Very happy w/ the swim as it was the first time I've ever swam outdoors w/o neoprene.
What would you do differently?:

Site better...
Remember to put anti-fog gel in before race.
Transition 1
  • 07m 14s
Comments:

Had a bathroom break that cost time.
Also, re-applied sunscreen.

Good overall...Very log transition area.

No clothing change...
What would you do differently?:

Nothing...

Apply body glide to feet!

Comments:

Nutrtion was spot on using InfinIT...Thanks KlienRider for the Hot Tip!

Because my watch freaked, I think I took in too much fluid at end of bike. Was bloated when I got to the run...
What would you do differently?:

More aero position riding...
Bar mount garmin watch...
Transition 2
  • 06m 28s
Comments:

Took a little extra time for photo opps, and rapping with guests in transition area.

Re-applied sunscreen...

Walked out of transition...
What would you do differently?:

Bodyglide feet!!!

Run
  • 3h 23m 50s
  • 13.1 miles
  • 15m 34s  min/mile
Comments:

High HR off bike...
Sloshy stomach...
Tried to wait it out and lower my HR, but keep a good walk pace, but ended up walking the entire race.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing...
I ended up walking the last 11 miles of the race w/ a cancer survivor from NY named Bert. Both of us got each other to the finish, and made the experience more than finishing faster by myself would have. I will never forget the time spent on the Run w/ Bert. He will be a friend for life!

Course: Liked the course except for the smell of diesel fuel on the water:( Don't like wave starts w/ Running starts. Prefer Mass start or in-water starts. Wave seedings were poorly done by the race officials. I saw 3 different colored swim caps (multiples) going through my wave. They placed the "traditionally" fastest age groups 30-34 and 35-39 males last. Therefore, causing a ton of wave jumping.

Congrats on a great race!

Tough conditions for someone from the Northern US....smart swimming and good to keep your HR in control on the bike.

Races sometime take unexpected turns and meeting Bert and walking with him sounds like it was one of those things that was great.

Nice race to practice for IM MOO!

Great Job! I know this is months later but still well deserved.

i was browsing and noticed your HIM so I had to read and learn. I have seen too many people bashing disney related events, but not specifically the 70.3 Ironman event. How was it overall, venue, course volunteers, the course, wetsuit used? i want to know! I am fiending for more. (and the season just ended, I am addicted!)
