Goal time 1:01:00 or bust Will require near 20MPH on the bike (1 6 mi slow ride since Oct) and 7 flat run pace with 2 quick transitions. I can do it!

Freking cold

Because of the split waves we actually got 10 min in the pool for warmup. Took 200ish to get my body ready for teh race....

  • 400 meters
  • 01m 40s / 100 meters
Comments:

lined up in 6th and gave it a strong swim. Got caught by #7 around the 200M pointbut was clean except for that. My estimates were for a yard pool so I was really only about 15 sec slow...count the pass near the wall and a few extra seconds and I'm ok with it...
What would you do differently?:

Not much change....focus on catch and pull I forgot I was swimming/racing
Transition 1
  • 01m 15s
Comments:

Finally got out of the watter and exited the pool building.....cold!!! Got into T1 and got the helmet and race belt on then second guessed my "vest/no vest" decision and put it on part way then took it off. Bike off the rack then out the door.
What would you do differently?:

not try to put on my vest...focus on the

Comments:

One word.....CRAMPS in the calfs here is where the lack of cycling fitness killed me. First hill wrecked the calves and from mile 2 on I was fighting to not totally cramp up. Had 4 times where I had to stop working just to keep the legs working....down hill was the worst.
What would you do differently?:

Train
Transition 2
  • 01m 21s
Comments:

One more word. CRAMPS good dismount and jog into T2, very wet floor at this point (tennis court)...solw getting racked but ok helmet off, bend down grab a shoe and nearly fall over from a calf cramp. 3 tries to get the shoe on then 2 cramps on the other. left the glasses and went out the door....
What would you do differently?:

I don't know, train on the bike so my legs don't lock up

  • 2 miles

Comments:

decided to get on my horse and go. Taqrgeted a sub 7 and figured I hold on as long as possible. It worked. Saw B with .5 to go and she looked really strong
What would you do differently?:

nothing
Post race
Warm down:

crossed the line grabbed a bottle and headed back out the run course to run Bekah in . Got to her with .3 to go and helped her run dow 2 runners. She did awesome

What limited your ability to perform faster:

no bike fitness and 10#

Event comments:
