Total Time = 1h 04m 11s
Overall Rank = 645/1274
Age Group = 50-55
Age Group Rank = 0/
Pre-race routine:

Had a good carb breakfast with my usual coffee...race didn't start till 1pm. Got to Litchfield at 11:15 to park my car and find Max and Patti. But due to parking problems I couldn't get to our meeting site until 11:45 (15 minutes late). Didn't find them till the race was well over, but thats another story.
Event warmup:

Jogged prior to the race for approx 1/2 mile because I figured that 7 miles was long enough to run. Had my Endurox at 11:00, and my GU at 12:45. Stretched my calves, etc.

Comments:

I was right on schedule to finish under an hour when my IT band acted up at about mile 4. Had to stop and stretch and slow down in order to finish the race. Otherwise it was a beautiful day, a little warmer than I thought, but I dressed appropriately. My rank for 50-59 year old females was 9/42
What would you do differently?:

Wear my cho-pat knee wrap for long distance.
Post race
Warm down:

Walked, stretched and had some post race food. Looked for Max and Patti.
Litchfield has no phone tower, so both our cell phones were almost useless. I had to drive away, then phone. Finally found each other. I kept asking men during the race if they were Max...one of them responded, "I will be, if you want me to". That was my day.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

My dumb knee acted up. I am really pissed off (can I say that?) Thought it was healed, but here it is again. I guess I'm really a short distance runner.

Event comments:

Next year I am going to prepare just for this race. Since the course is near me, I am going to train it more often.

Also, had great BBQ with Max and Patti. I can't believe the great people I have met on this site!!!!!

I'll plug in my race times here also.  We got to the course about 11:30 and searched for Evelyn.  Not really knowing what she looked like, it was a crap shoot since there were about 10,000 people milling about!  I did about the same warm up as Evelyn, figuring the first mile of the race was downhill.  Felt OK for 2 miles, then the effects of Saturday's triathlon started wearing on me, I think perhaps I wasn't re-hydrated completely.  I was baking in the hot sun, and it was good to see the shaded woods portion of the course.  The pathetic thing about being a mid-packer on an out and back course was seeing the Kenyan runners (the first 11 places were all from Kenya) go by you in the other direction and you look at your watch and realize they are twice as fast as you are!  But I ran the entire distance, including the 100% grade hill (well it sure seemed like it!) right before the finish.  Here's my times:

Total overall:  786 out of 1274      Age group (50-59):  88th out of 164        Time:  1:07:08  (9:35 per mile)

The best part of the race was the live bands playing at each mile mark!  It was all I could do not to stop running and grab a guitar and join in, especially with the group that was playing Call Me The Breeze (Lynyrd Skynyrd)!

Thanks to Evelyn and family for the wonderful BBQ.  Meeting them was even better than you could wish for.  My wife and I had such a great time.  It's people like that who make this forum as great as it is!

Sorry to hear about your IT band,  I know what a pain that is.  Congrats on your finish and in a really good time with an IT band flare up.  Way to hang in there.
