Sunny
Total Time = 1h 04m 42s
Overall Rank = 25/606
Age Group = M50-54
Age Group Rank = 1/37
Pre-race routine:

Coffee and Clif bar, got about 6 hours of sleep due to daughters birthday party the night before.
Event warmup:

1 lap in the pool.
Swim
  • 05m 7s
  • 275 yards
  • 01m 52s / 100 yards
Comments:

I just suck in pool swims, forgot to start watch so did it mid way thru third length. lots of issues getting off the wall and under the lane rope quickly.
What would you do differently?:

learn to swim, continue with Masters class, learn flip turn better?
Transition 1
  • 01m 16s
Comments:

No issues
What would you do differently?:

If I ran faster I might have been able to shave off a few seconds
Bike
  • 36m 27s
  • 13 miles
  • 21.40 mile/hr
Comments:

I never got the electronics straight from Galveston 70.3 so I was riding blind except for HR and cadence. Might have pushed a little harder if I had seen ave speed. Think I had just one guy pass me. Took longer then usual to get feet into shoes. Dropped water bottle on last loop and turned back to get it which probably cost me 20S. Should have come out of shoes earlier as I slowed substantially before finish to get them out.
What would you do differently?:

Get bike set up right before race. Use aerobar water bottle exclusively so no chance of dropping bottle. Figure out how to get shoes set up better to get feet into them more easily. figure out where to get feet out of shoes prior to the race.
Transition 2
  • 01m 9s
Comments:

Used Asic Nimbus' with Yankz laces this time. Had to sit on pavement to get them on.
What would you do differently?:

Maybe get a new pair of easy entry zoots to shave 5-10s.
Run
  • 20m 42s
  • 3.1 miles
  • 06m 41s  min/mile
Comments:

Apperantly I'm still recovering from running Boston the prior Monday. Had a hard time getting legs to cooperate, couldn't get HR above 160's until the very end.
What would you do differently?:

I need to try a three mile warmup run prior to these sprints, it always helps during a regular 5K, not sure how it will impact my bike but know it should help get legs up to speed faster.
Post race
Warm down:

Just had a sports drink and rice bowl from My Fit Foods. Hung out with the rest of the gang cheering the rest of our group to a finish. Should have done a few mile cool down run and stretched but didn't.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Lack of sleep, poor execution of turns in pool, bike electronics not set up right, getting feet into bike shoes quickly, dropping water bottle, racing 6 days after a marathon.

Event comments:

The line up before the swim was a cluster however they did have a line nazi making sure people weren't jumping in out of order. This had no impact on my sucky swim time regardless.

Normally I would not have raced the week after a marathon but I had several friends participating, the first tri for three of them so I had no expectations of a great performance. My head obviously wasn't in the game as I forgot to get the bike electronics set up right and practice the multisport mode on my watch. Was happy with 1st AG finish but not happy finishing 2 min behind my rival/buddy who beat me by just 17 seconds at Galveston 70.3 three weeks ago.
