Total Time = 50m
Overall Rank = 9/92
Age Group = 35-39
Age Group Rank = 2/11
Pre-race routine:

One of the most stressful weeks I can remember. Dr. found a blood clot in wifes leg and small one in her lung. We were supposed to travel to TX for Xterra Bluebonnet and are lucky they found the clot before getting on the plane. 3 stressful days and things finally got somewhat controlled by Saturday night. Since my twin brother was going down to Ashland to race I decided I needed the stress reliever. Had no power morning of race so I woke up 30 minutes later than I wanted, but still got in my breakfast and sat down for a few minutes before leaving.
Event warmup:

Ran about a mile on the course. Rain was holding off to a very slight mist so even though it was cool it was nice.
Run
  • 11m 48s
  • 1.8 miles
  • 06m 34s  min/mile
Comments:

Probably ran the first 1/4 mile too fast, but it helped put me near the front. Settled in to a good pace and kept it all smooth.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing.
Transition 1
  • 00m
Comments:

Mixed in with bike leg, but I feel it was a fast transition for me.
What would you do differently?:

nothing.
Bike
  • 24m 31s
  • 5.5 miles
  • 13.46 mile/hr
Comments:

No place to rest and stay on the gas the whole time. A really fast mtn bike course. And since it is short you just gun it.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing, except have my race bike with me. Since it was in Texas though I used my old bike...which is still a very nice bike.
Transition 2
  • 00m
Comments:

Mixed in with second run.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing, this actually felt like a fast transition for me.
Run
  • 13m 43s
  • 1.8 miles
  • 07m 37s  min/mile
Comments:

Took the first 1/4 mile to get my legs up to speed, but after that I just focused on the rabbit in front of me. I cam within 5 seconds of catching him. My left calf tweaked out on the downhill paved finish so I hope that is fine in a couple days.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing.
Post race
Warm down:

ate brownies, water, yogurt, and even a hot dog.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

2.5 minutes faster than last year so no complaints for an early season race.

Event comments:

I like this race. Maybe it is because I do well at it. I wish there were more offroad duathlons to race in the New England area. FIRM events are low key and fun. I suggest everyone try one of their races.
