Less than a month away!  First time on this course for me.  Anyone in for some bike segment training rides Saturday mornings?  Perhaps some bricks as well?  =)

Roland,

I would love to get some training in but I can't do Saturday because I have Club Runs.  Can you do Sundays, I usually do my Bricks on Sunday so it works well with my schedule.

Also I need to catch up with you to get the tires, I would like to put them on before Wildflower so let me know what works.

Hmmmm, I can move my long run to Saturday and just ride long on Sunday (and if my legs still have it, do a brick as well) this coming weekend.  Swim Velocity is hosting a run segment preview tomorrow morning at 9 and May 5th as well.

I still have the GP4000s tires.  They're great!  I recently installed them on my Slice 5 and they roll really smooth.

Was in the Lake yesterday, first swim of the season.  LG told me it was 71, no way!  More like 64-65, not bad, just not good!  Beware of the swimmers itch, kinda bad right now.  Make sure to hit the outside shower asap, will help keep it at bay!  Less then 3 weeks now, gonna be a fun day!

Swimmers itch???  Please elaborate Coach Gil.  It will be my first swim in that lake.

Not sure exactly what causes it, I think it is an issue with the water fowl.  It happens every year, worse at times, now is one of those times.  It presents itself as a rash over the body, and hence the name, is rather itchy.  I didn't get the rash, but more like I was bit by about 2 dozen mosquitos.  The lake is a pretty clean lake, I'd much rather swim there then say, Bonelli.  It will be great for the race.  I won't swim it again until race day, just not worth getting a possible virus.  Again, it is not that big a deal, and, if you do practice there prior, just remember to hit the showers right away!  Best of luck to you come Sunday, race well and no injuries!

Thanks!  But wait, is there a shower nearby I can use?  Mosquitoes like attacking me.  >.<

I did the 1 mile OW swim last year and am doing it again this year. The lake was pretty cold. Definitely not in the low 70's. I don't know about the itch thing. I didn't have a problem with that. I showered once I got home, about an hour later, and didn't notice any skin problems. If fact I felt cleaner than I have in other lakes that I've swam in.

For those racing here this coming Sunday... how are we feeling???  Tapering down right?  I simulated the bike segment this past Saturday and it's gonna be super fun.  With the memories of M3's bike segment last October, this one will be FAST!  =)

Yeah, I'm sure you have enough power being a big guy and all.  It's gonna be interesting as we're in the same AG!  I'm not that fast a swimmer so you might pass me there but MAYBE I'll catch you on the bike and pass but then you'll catch me on the run and pass, hehehe!

You must have me confused with someone else lol.  I'm slow on the run, I'm ok on the bike but the hills might take their toll on me.  We'll see though.

I did the practice swim in the lake 2 weeks ago and was surprised at how warm the water was.  I think they said it was 68 degrees.

Then, I looked at the Lake's website this morning and it says the water temp is 72 degrees!!!

Does anybody know above what temperature they ban wetsuits??

jpf

No wetsuits allowed above 83.9F so we're good to wear one this Sunday.  =)

Just learned that this year, wetsuits aren't allowed on the swim only events. Last year they were. This year you can, but then don't qualify for anything. Boooooo! Gonna be cold without that wetsuit! But, on the plus side...I can swim normally and not feel like a floaty Michelin man!

RE: Wetsuits - From the USA Triathlon website, official rules:

4.4 Wetsuits. Each age group participant shall be permitted to wear a wet suit without penalty in any event sanctioned by USA Triathlon up to and including a water temperature of 78 degrees Fahrenheit. When the water temperature is greater than 78 degrees, but less than 84 degrees Fahrenheit, age group participants may wear a wet suit at their own discretion, provided however that participants who wear a wet suit within this temperature range shall not be eligible for prizes or awards. Age group participants shall not wear wet suits in water temperatures equal to or greater than 84 degrees Fahrenheit. The wetsuit policy for elite athletes shall be determined by the USAT Athletes Advisory Council. The AAC has set the wetsuit maximum temperature for elites at 68 degrees for swim distances less than 3,000 meters and 71.6 degrees for distances of 3,000 meters or greater. Effective January 1, 2013, any swimmer wearing a wetsuit with a thickness measured in any part greater than 5 millimeters shall be disqualified.

Can someone explain t2?

I drop my shoes off the day before in a bag and then have to find the bag when I finish on the bike?

Also, did they have mile markers on the run course for those of us with non-gps watches =)

T2 is on the running/biking trail that parallels El Toro Rd, right by Saddleback Church (El Toro and Marguerite).  It is maybe 1/2 mile or so from the Lake.

You will want to bag EVERYTHING you could possibly need (running shoes, hat, glasses, whatever) at T2 to drop off on Saturday afternoon.  You get to pick a spot to put your bag so it's not like you have to look all over for it when you get there after the bike.  Maybe choose a bright color or tie a ribbon on it or something.

It's a little inconvenient because then you have to go back there after the race to pick up your bike, but not the end of the world.

I do not remember seeing mile markers on the run.

Yep!  Thank goodness I've been doing hill repeats for the past month and a half.  I messed up on the swim by way of swimming a bit wide left which cost me alot of time.  Really enjoyed the bike!  Times are posted btw.  You beat me by 2 paces in AG and by 8 overall.  I'll get you next time, hehehe!  =)

You guys were right! I ended up all itchy after the swim! It started during the last quarter mile of the swim, or so. I haven't gotten a rash, but it itched like crazy. Showering helped a lot...but not a good feeling.Yell

I did the 2.5 OW swim and wanted to tear my skin off after the swim.  Today I am covered in red bumps everywhere.  Really glad google picked up this thread.  Saved me a trip to the doctor.  I wish I had seen this before the race yesterday.  I will be more through in my showering next year and after any lakes swims in the future.

Other than that, it was a great swim.
