Who is in?

I'm scheduled for #1, #2 and #4, and then we'll see how I'm feeling about #5.

Hoping to do #1 & #3 but I have a 230 mile charity ride the week before #1. I'll see how the legs feel about that one.

I'm signed up for all five, but I'm probably not going to be able to make it to number three.  To anyone on the fence about number five, the last one is always the most competitive, so do that one if you can.

I'm in for all 5. Haven't done one here yet. Heard the "dog pond" in mid July can be nasty! More motivation to swim faster I guess.

Yes, the water did get pretty warm last year. Still, I didn't find it too disgusting at all, really. Just kind of tried not to think about it too much.

I agree, the water got warm but not any nastier than the first race.  I learned how to swim and swam in a pond a lot like that one when I was young so maybe I just don't see it like everyone else.

There are a few people who are turned off from these races because they don't want to swim in a "dog pond." When I think about it, I'm really not sure why a pond that dogs sometimes swim in would be any worse than any other pond where who knows what swims in it, but there you are.

I've done the race ten times. Once after a rainstorm it smelled pretty funky in one corner (near the start line) of the pond, but other than that, it's been perfectly fine.

Any idea on wetsuit legal for #1?  If so worth it?

A lot of people swear by them but I don't know if it would make enough of a difference in just a 600 yard swim.  I would guess the water temp would be a good bit higher than the first race because year because we've had nearly summer temps for over a month already.  Although I think you're a police officer from Charleston so you're more than aware of the heat.

So apparently there is a troPical storm off the coast... Now that's an excuse I can use for a slow bike, anybody else feel like we were peddling nowhere fast? Great race overall though!

It was gorgeous out there today! Well, except for the wind out on Folly Rd. But not having to deal with any heat or humidity really made the run feel fantastic.

So, did anyone else lay their bike down out there? I did. :-o No injuries except for a tiny abrasion on my hand. I braked for a dropped bottle, skidded the back tire and just put it right down on the shoulder coming out of the park. There was no one around, and I was back up and out of there as fast as possible. I figure the adrenaline boost helped make up for any lost time!

Came close, I hit a puddle that was almost all road paint and it kicked out my rear tire...  I was able to stay upright but ended up causing another cyclist to go into the grass, luckily he was ok and got back on.  I appologized profusely and he took it in stride, I felt like an a$$ though.

I agree conditions for the run were awesome, PR'd my 5k and Sprint distance time.

Who's ready for CSTS #2, I know I am.  Quick question, should I wear my wetsuit?  I feel like I could cut about 2 minutes off my time with it on but I kind of feel like its cheating even though the rules allow it.  My goal is to dip below 1:20 this year and my swim is holding me back.  I am about 5 minutes away from that goal.  I am midpack on the run and bike but almost last on the swim.  Any thoughts.  Also not worried about overheating b/c its so short in the water and its also a sleeveless.

Definitely do it if it's allowed!! That's not cheating, that's just good strategy. Laughing

I'll be there Sunday, too.

I have been so focused on the run and totally slacking on the bike. I just hope that the roads are dry this time.

It's allowed so use it.  It's not cheating since it is allowed.  I wore mine for #1 just make sure you can get it off fast enough to get on the bike.
