So who's doing this race?  Anyone doing the HIM?

What are yur plans for the day?I'm figuring on finishing in around two hours, which will be about right for catching the HIM racers come in to T2 so I figure on bringing some snacks and drinks and staying and watching the HIM racers do their thing.

Did everyone else get the email about the foz cities tri club having a ow swim practice on the 18th at high cliff.  Anyone going?  I'm thinking about it, and bringing the bike for some hill repeats, I really need those.

I've never done the race, this being my first year, but I did the practice group ride with the trifoxes on june 4th.  The bike course starts out with a climb up the bluff, about 180 feet of acsent in about a half mile, as a guess I'd say it averages baout a 7% grade. I know I can spin up it at 60 rpm in my smallest gear.  After that the net 21 miles is pretty flat with some rolling hills but averages downhill as you slowly gain back the 180 feet.  Here's a copy of the elevation map from the MSE website.  I think the run starts up the same hill, arun at the top, turnaround, and then back down.

My buddy and me will be doing the sprint.  It's his first and my third.  I'm not as prepared for this as I was last year, so I bet I'll be a bit slow, like 1hr30-40min or so.  This year is all about the build up to the Olympic Dist.

I lived in Appleton most of my life, therefore High Cliff is quite familiar.  The hill is looooong and then at the very top it gets a bit steeper.  The rest of it all is flat.  Feel free to single me out if you see me around...

Good luck all.

I'm not real local to the lake, but the algea doesn't kick up till the heat does. When I was there on the 4th the lake was clear.

He's right, it's not terrible now.  But it still won't be clean, it's the same water that flows up to the GB via the Fox.  -- watch out for sturgeons...

I'm in for the sprint. I was thinking I need more things to be freaked about the swim (I have OWS issues) so this is perfect for me. Any more good news about the swim: cold?, deep?, full of wild octopus? I won't be able to make the 18th oh darn.

Perfect timing for the last post... I just got done with the Fox Tri Club's Open water swim practice tonight...

Tonight the water was very choppy, mild temps. The sprint is an out to the bouy and back course, and the whole distance is neck high depth (I am 5'9). PERFECT swim!

Bike course is sensational... the first hill is a beast, but after that it's a gradually downhill for the next 21 miles (basically flat.)

I am guessing average speeds are going to be 17.5 and up. VERY FAST course!

Didn't go on the run.

The water's for the most part chest to neck deep, really too deep to run trough.  Also ther are patches of rocky bottom, and the rocks are covered in zebra mussels.  On the sunday practice swim I kneeled on a rock and got several scratches across my  shin, and Rob (Pseudoyams) got a cut on the bottom of his foot.  So I'd suggest swimming till you get close to the beach.  But if you need to rest or get your bearing, try to see if its shallow enough to stand and you can rest and get your bearings.

I don't actually want to run the swim I just like to know that I could. The cut up legs and feet doesn't really appeal to me though.

I might be doing the clinic on saturaday. I won't know for sure until tomorrow.

As for meeting up before the race, I'm a bad guy to ask, at Green Bay I didn't find AJFreddy and Stargazer until after the race even though they were two of the tallest people there.

Well as for myself, I'll be there on Saturday for the clinics.

And Sunday I'll likely be towards the very end (I signed up on Monday), so look for me in the 900's lol. I have a light teal colored old Cannondale. But you really can't miss me in my jersey, Red and White UW Sheboygan cycling top. Most of the time before the race I'll be at my rack.

I am trying to think of a meeting place we could maybe all meet up at..

Maybe the run finish line? Say about 6:15 or so?
