Run
Comments: My first every overall win!!! However, with only 118 people running, there wasn't much competition. It was quite a breezy day, and there were some points where we were running into a nice headwind (on the way out towards the lighthouse on Baxter), but it became a tailwind after getting onto Sankaty Ave. Having run the Boston Marathon just under two weeks ago, I haven't done any speed stuff at all, and didn't know how this race would go. I know I'm capable of running mid 17's with some decent speed training, but I was aiming to just break 18:00 here, which would be a PR. I took off from the start and was leading with one other guy. We ran shoulder to shoulder for the first mile or so, then he pulled about 10-15 feet ahead. Around mile 2 I noticed that his stride looked a little of and that he was laboring. I put in a little surge, and never looked back, winning by 25 seconds. The course seemed a bit long (3.18 on my Garmin), and my pace for that distance was 5:42. My mile splits were 5:48, 5:44, 5:38, and 5:12 (final .18). I was pretty happy with the race, but know I can go quite a bit faster. I'm thinking of doing another local 5k in a few weeks to try to get into the 17's. Post race
Warm down: Katie also ran, and finished with a pace just under 8:00. It wasn't a PR, as she's having some shin issues lately, but she was happy - 6th overall female. Event comments: Fun race - I guess I'll have to defend next year! The organizer of the race is Jake Allegrini, and I've met him at a few other races in the past. He's doing the Tremblant 140.6, and I told him I'd let him know about the course after the 70.3 in June. Last updated: 2012-04-29 12:00 AM

Only got in a little over a mile for a warm-up - less than I usually do for a 5k, but did about 1/2 mile at around what I thought would be race pace.
