Awesome,

I was funemployed for a while.  Here's what I did

I spent a few days sleeping in, then making coffee, then meeting my neighbor in the yard around 10:00 A.M.  (He's retired).  We would chat about "The old days" before our neighborhood had curbs.  He would also mention that in 30 years he's never met the backyard neighbors.

After that i would go in and watch magnum P.I. (Re-runs of course).  Then it would be lunch time.

After lunch I would peruse Monster.com for jobs, that usually turned into looking up the most expensive houses in my area, then the most expensive home in theUS, then the world.  This got me thinking,  I should build a shed.

I went to the local Home Depot and ordered a pre-cut just put it together shed for my riding lawn mower.  I had all of the pieces delivered to my yard.  One by one I took these pieces to the back yard and laid them out (Under the watchful eye of my retired neighbor).  We would have great discussions about construction.

Once I had all of the pieces laid out, I got a call and took a 3 day freelance photography job.  During these three days, it rained, then the sun came out giving all of my shed pieces a little bend..  Did I mention that when you buy a shed kit it doesn't come with a floor ?

Back to Home Depot I go for an aluminum frame that's supposed to be the same size as the floor.

To make a long story a little longer, I finally finished the shed.  I muscled, and cut, and finagled all of the pieces together and i even shingled the roof.  My moment of glory had come!

I proudly got on my riding mower, did a couple of hot-laps around the yard so everyone could see me and be aware of my accomplishment.  I pull up to the shed, aim the front wheels into the door, start riding it in, and suddenly Boom.  I wasn't going forward anymore.  I tried it again, and got the same result.  I look down and much to my surprise, the mower deck is about an inch wider than the opening in the doors.

My Mower still lives in the garage, and the shed has since been filled with lots of other things...

I'll give you 3 things, all fun in their own way.

1) find a friend that can either play hookie or doesn't work, or is unemployed also.  Go to a Mexican food joint and sit on the patio under the umbrella.  Preferably this patio has a fountain.  Order a 2-to-1 margarita to food ratio and sit there all afternoon and discuss whatever you like.  The more outrageous you can make it, the better.  make sure to wear their obligatory sombrero at some point in the afternoon.

2) since you are in Tucson hike/mountain bike santa catalina natural area in the morning.  hunt down a taco truck for lunch and spend the rest of the day eating tapas on a restaurant patio reading a magazine.

3)  sleep all d@m DAY

4) find another job

Today:

Went to a HIIT class, cooked breakfast + some prepared stuff that can be reheated later, made coffee, job searched, registered car, dropped off rent, landed a phone interview for a temp. engineering job, washed my car, finally scraped off four stickers from various jobs and highway systems that are no longer needed, chatted with the neighbor...

Still left:

Track practice, cook dinner, swim with the dog, clean the living room and kitchen, put my clothes away. I better get back to it!

I have this obsessive desire to get the house in shape - mainly because I'd expect that if my SO were unemployed, that he kept up on the dishes and sweeping

Tomorrow:

Early AM trail run, nap, phone interview, more job applying, bike ride... 

You're doing it all wrong, you're not supposed to get the interview until unemployement and savings are almost depleted! 

Congrats on the interview. 

So far, I have:

-Rode my bike to the top of Mt Lemmon while all of you suckers were at your desks :-P

-Taken naps

-read books in the hammock (for business and pleasure)

-Trail running

-washed the car

-totally and completely unpacked everything

-met friends for lunch

-joined and used the library

-gone on hikes

-rode my bike to the pool

-job searched

-interviewed for an Outdoor Guide position

-researched some small businesses for sale in the area

-landed 1 engineering interview, and a few call-backs

-scored 99th percentile on the ASVAB, but medical documents are holding that up

-looked into other career alternatives

-toyed around with Rosetta Stone - Latin American Spanish version

-sat on the couch watching bad TV feeling sorry for myself

-had dinner ready for the BF when he gets home

-played LOTS of fetch in the pool with the dog

Still to do:

-follow the historical trail downtown

-explore volunteer activities that won't take too much commitment, in case the right job comes along

that's great!  I think, What's the ASVAB ??

The ASVAB is the Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery test. Looks like someone is toying around with the idea of joining the military. Very good!!

Looking at the AZ National Guard's Officer program.

Awesome!! I dont know a lot about the Guard but any service is good service. What does the AZ National Guard have to offer jobwise?

Good for you!  That's awesome...  You have been very busy.  I would have been very lazy...

Not a whole lot until after 10 wks of basic and 18mo. of officer training. After commissioning, there are a good amount of options. 

Not to bash on the military -- I'm former Navy myself, but be 100% sure if/when you sign up.  The National Guard is guarding a lot more than just our nation these days.  I have friends who've done multiple tours to Afghanistan already.

If you're up for that, more power to you but I know how recruiters are and they'll give you the sunny day version every single time.

I know what I'd be in for.

I actually really respect this recruiter. I think he realized I was smart, reasonable, and already well-informed (former govt employee who dealt with Navy people regularly) - so he's not BSing me.
