You can live vicariously through me, and give me something to feel good about I went out and rode 40 this morning before I had to hang it up to get to work. If it wasn't for work, I would have rode another 40 and then had lunch with the girl. So go for a long ride and then find someone awesome to have lunch with |

Brilliant! Another: Detail your car. Great feeling to have a reconditioned car with the carpets and upholstery scrubbed, the scratches polished out, chrome and black rubber like new. |

Champion 10018 , Minnesota | Subject: RE: FUNemployment I always have Mondays off and I make good use of them. This morning I caught a ride with my husband into his workplace and then rode my bike home - it's fun to have variety for a bike ride. I always plan my longer training days for Mondays. I have a few friends that have nontraditional schedules so we meet up for coffee or meet at the gym to play something totally frivolous like racquetball. If I am being "good" I do a lot more housework, too. Enjoy your time off - I hope it's not too long. |

Damn Elaine! I know how that is. Unfortunately, been there done that. My latest... "Well it's been 6 months since my latest cancer treatment and it looks like I'm in remission." "Good for you... You're fired." What do you want to do? I have IT contacts all around the country. I know plenty in the Tuscon area. If you're in IT and if you want to send me your resume, I can network it amongst some friends. And what would I do?

Master 1780 Boynton Beach, FL | Subject: RE: FUNemployment Visit my old stomping grounds in FL, and have a few drinks with fellow BT members (me!). Then go swimming and give (a lot) of pointers to fellow BT members (me again!). Then go riding and biking with said BT members (guess who?). Request BT that members pay you in beer, wings, and (apparently) milkshakes. Or go climb Kilimanjaro...Oh, sorry. You already did that. |

Extreme Veteran 477 , Virginia | Subject: RE: FUNemployment As stressful as it can be, enjoy the break. I was unemployed for 9 months last year and it went by so quickly. My advice: Hit the grocery store at non-peak hours Take advantage of the mid-week sales at clothing stores Go out to lunch - way less busy than dinner and cheaper too! Enjoy the unlimited training opportunities, but it can be so hard to get motivated if you know you have all day to do it. |

Master 6834 Englewood, Florida | Subject: RE: FUNemployment Take some time to network, volunteer and train. Read more. See all the nature you can. Cook, study something completely out of your comfort zone, visit museums, go camping, visit a children's hospital. Wake up early and run in the dark. Sleep late and watch bad TV. All this and so much more is available for you. When one door closes, another one opens. Find that door and run through it. And work on any coaching opportunity that you may find, since you would like to build that anyway. |

Pro 4189 Pittsburgh, my heart is in Glasgow | Subject: RE: FUNemployment When I was unemployed, it was torture. Pure torture. But that's because I'm at the beginning of my professional career, not at the middle bits. I had also never been without a job since I was 14. I spent a lot of time at college libraries, reading all of the specialist expensive books that I couldn't afford to buy myself. I went for runs and rides, and met my husband for brown bag lunches once a week or so. But most importantly, I volunteered. A lot. In my field. I figured that I love what I do so much that I'll do it for free. And it turned out that that ability and willingness to show up and treat that volunteerism like a job actually GOT me my first job, and several contacts since then. Granted this works well because I'm in a non-profit field, I imagine the situation is quite different for other fields, but even if you find a cause that's important to you, something I've discovered is that people who work in non-profits/philanthropy may not have a lot of money, but they have a BIG Rolodex, and they like to do favors for their friends. And I went to a bunch of conferences and professional development things, which, while expensive, was worth it for the contacts and resume building. My advice is to take some time and relax a bit. Take an assessment of your skills-- a mentor told me once not to just look at my career title, but all of the skills within that career, and see what I can make of those, even if it doesn't fit "what I do". |

Sorry to hear about the job, I would spend some time with the family, spend some time getting everything done I normally fit into the evenings so I could spend time with friends then.

Extreme Veteran 799 | Subject: RE: FUNemployment Learn a new language or skill. With so many resources on the Internet, you can learn just about anything for the cost of your monthly Internet connection. I'm in IT, so I'd go that route to make myself more marketable. It's not only good for your resume, but since you can pick whatever you want it should be fun to learn. |

Pennsylvania | Subject: RE: FUNemployment Sorry to hear about your unemployment, Elaine. Maybe this will be an opportunity to get your coaching enterprise going? I would take some time to get my house organized and get my garden planted and readied the way I like it. In between I would throw in some training, time with the dogs in the woods and some general relaxation. When I was layed off years ago, my flower beds and garden looked great despite the caretaker being under the influence of Tangeray and tonics! Aahhh, those were the days! |

Pro 5761 Bartlett, TN | Subject: RE: FUNemployment Personally? I'd lay around all day until it was to late to do anything and be mad cause I did not even shower and then I'd be depressed cause I wasted the entire day. I would then vow that tomorrow was going tobe a good day, only I'd stay up to late watching crap TV and not get up again the next day.
But, that's me. |
