Subject: microwave
I recently moved and my new house did not have a microwave in the kitchen and I will have to buy one at some point. I was recently thinking about my diet and how most of the food I eat does not need to be cooked in a microwave and alot of my food is lean meat and veggies, etc. With that being said, how many of you dont have a microwave or dont use one? I was thinking about not buying one and using it as a challenge to stay on course with my healthy eating habits.

I got rid of mine a while ago after reading a few articles about how microwaving destroys the food.  Haven't missed it at all.  If I forget to thaw something for dinner I just boil fish/chicken in the vacuum sealed bags they come in until they're soft, or sautee the meat slowly.  Hubby throws the frozen fish/hamburger patties right on the grill.  Steaming/sauteeing veggies/rice doesn't take much longer than nuking them.  Pressure cookers are fast, too.  I bet you won't miss your microwave, either!

That might not be a bad idea.  I hardly ever use my microwave, even when I was eating unhealthy.  I have a small 700W microwave.  It's not big enough or powerful enough to cook most things, so I don't use it often.  It does come in handy for some things though (popcorn, heating a tortilla, leftovers, etc.

we haven't had one for 6 years now, not sure if it is better or not but we haven't really missed it.

I have had one for 5 years now and have only used it maybe 4 or 5 times. Prefer other methods of cooking besides nuking my food to death.

A microwave can still be a handy tool for prep work even when doing whole food cooking. You don't have to throw a boxed meal in it. I use mine to heat water to make my iced tea, for one thing.

Careful going down the road of eliminating appliances too rashly. You end up like this guy.
