Hello All,

I was wondering what everyone thought of the recent updates sent out on the race.  I found it interesting that you race your age and that they are not following the age up policy.  That puts me in the lower age group but no big deal.  I was kind of surprised about the "doom and gloom" take on the weather.  I would really like to hear from people who've done this race before to hear race tips, especially the swim.  I know the bike and run are going to be contigent on the weather.  I just hope that race day is not our first 90 degree plus day.

I just think they want us prepared for the heat.

What about the hint of a possible mass start? That would be interesting.

Yea, that mass start thing kind of got my attention. I'm thinking and hoping that that was just a general announcement concerning some changes that are possible now with WTC. I don't think they are planning to do this at EagleMan. I did this race two years ago and the weather wasn't too bad. I can't remember the exact temp but it was hot, although not super hot like I guess it was last year (95'). The wind wasn't much of a factor two years ago either. The water was pretty choppy and you do have to be aware of the current and know which way it is pushing you. The hardest part for me on the swim was that the sun was coming up directly behind the turn around boat we were sighting. The race really is a great race and cool venue. It is neat to be at a race with some of the top pros and top age groupers in the world, not to mention the other 2000 of us. It was a good experience last time and hope for a great weekend.

Looks like they have the swim waves up on the website:

The "Keys to Success" page and scroll down to find.

I like the fact that the Clyde's are almost last so I'm not constantly being passed by everyone, but that also means that I will getting to the run at the hottest time of the day.

I can't wait!

Just don't try to swim over me (I'm in the wave before yours).   Yeah, I'll be doing my entire run in the afternoon, in the heat.

I don't think you have anything to worry about. I didn't get the nickname "Tank" for swimming like a fish.

I just looked at the 15 day forcast on accuweather and it has the 11th being 75' and sunny! I know that's a long way off to forcast, but so far that looks great.

I'm still not sure what wave I'm in.  If I understand correctly than I'm in the 40-44 wave although with the new rules I should be in the 45-49 wave.  In one of the recent emails it said you would race your actually age for the race.  I'd rather race the 40-44 group as it starts earlier.

"Age up" is a stupid USAT rule. This is a WTC event, so you race your age on June 11. If you're 45-49 y/o you'll go off at 7:45.  I'd rather race against the 45-49 y/o's - you want to trade age groups?

This is my first Half Iron event.  I have heard a lot of information that the run is going to be very hot.  I am very fortunate to be in an early wave 35-39.

I wish everyone the best of luck!

I see that 30 something BTers will be at the race. Has there been any discussion of a BT photo op or get together? I'm going to be camping at that race site, so will be there on Saturday. Where's a good place to eat in town?

I don't have any specific plans for next weekend other than race day of course, and the pre race meeting/forum/registration so I'd be willing to meet up for dinner or whatever.  I know they are having that prerace pasta dinner which could be an option.

I don't eat in Cambridge too much, but I like Snapper's on Commerce St.  Tex-mex, right on the water.

We have a group of 7 BTers who will be there. It is hard to meet for a meal but for a picture would be great. My guess is that it is easiest to meet up right after the manditor pre-race meeting on saturday. What about right after the meeting everyone go outside the building and take a left (if looking at the building a right) and wait over on the south side of the building where last year they inspected the bikes. Just an idea

That sounds like a great idea.  I'll be there with some kind of BT sign.  If anyone wants to be in the picture that would be great.

Someone on Slowtwitch rode the course recently and said it measured at 57.41 miles. Could be some error in his cyclometer, but it could just be a tick longer than the "advertised" 56.

I'm just hoping the swim is a bit shorter than the advertised 1.2 miles.

We should get together after the mandatory meeting and then if some want to get together to go out, that would be cool. But you have to remember that there are 2000 other athletes thinking the same thing ...... ;-P

Count me in for the group pic.   Do you think we should post this on "Triathlon Talk" for people who may not know to come here to get info on a group BT pic??  Just a thought

I'll be in for a pic. The meeting should be mandatory for BTers so we can get the best group shot possible.

I think it's a good idea to post something on the general forum.  I should be there for a group photo after the meeting with emtri.

There is a science to certify and measure a race course. I'm sure an event as grand as the Eagleman has an accurate distance. No worries.

The email from May 25th that the race director sent us.  I don't know how they enforce that, but if they use the phrase pre-race meeting and the word mandatory, I had better attend.

Hey, I still have not finished making all the raffle tickets, but I will by the weekend, so I'd like to include the Joel raffle in the meet (I won't have the prizes there, but we can at least pick the winners!).
