I have been searching for some info on the Kerrville triathlon festival. Has anyone done it? Any good? I heard the run course was rough but they are changing it this year. Would love any input anyone has. I did Longhorn 70.3 last year and thinking about doing Kerrville instead due to my schedule.

Thanks!

If I had to pick between Austin and Kerrville, I would pick Kerrville. The course was amazing. Check my blog for a review of the Olympic course. The 70.3 was two loops on the same course. As a matter of fact, I'm having trouble deciding between the oly and the 70.3. You should find the race report in the link to my blog in my signature. The post will be in the Oct 2011 archives.

I registered today.  This will be my first 70.3 distance.  Scared does not begin to cover it.

I did the kerrville half last year and it was my favorite race of the year. I can't say it enough. A great event . Each leg of the course was fantastic.
A fast swim... I wore a wetsuit.
A picturesque bike... down and back and then do it again.
Down is fast because it was mostly downhill.
Back is slower because it is more up hill.
The run was really cool because it was an out and back loop you did a few times so you could chase people down and see who was in front of you....
Water stops and nutrition suited me.

The only thing scary about the race was our hotel accommodations. Of course we waited until tje last minute to get a room . We stayed at some shithole near the highway that charged a couple hundred a night (two night min). Our first stop was to walmart to buy bedding, lysol, pillows, TP, a trashcan, etc. so, If you are thinking of doing this race call The Inn of the Hills ASAP to reserve your room as It is one of the nicer hotels in the area...

Oh, and the field was very cozy and event well produced ... Maybe 300-500 for the entire event compared to at least that many in just my age group at the Austin half ironman.

Again, my favorite race last year.
Frank
- Hope to complete the Texas Tri series for a second year.

I would recommend it, as I would for any High Five race.  Did the 70.3 last year.  I am glad that they are changing the run section because that was mentally painful: four out and back.

Not sure if I will do a HIM this year but I may do the Kerrville quarter at least.

FrankHAustin-great post I laughed about your description of a hotel.  I am in for Kerville.  Thanks for the great post!

I'll be in for the sprint on Saturday and the 1/2 on Sunday.  Haven't done this one yet, but High Five events are always well done.

I do not like traveling on Sundays, but this looks like a nice race.
