Saturday May 12th afternoon OWS? (Page 2)

Hi guys.  I can't swim during the day this week any more, Monday was my only option, but let's keep in touch for the near future.  

The main reason we often pick Bryant Lake is that no one seems to care if we swim there and there's no lifeguard, the lake itself is only so-so and gets unswimmably weedy as the weather stays warm.  So, I am always up for ideas.

I could very easily meet at Nokomis on week nights after work (5 or 5:30 is best, or later).  Just some options.

I have all Monday's off through June at least, so that's best for me for week days.  Although sadly I am not free this coming Monday, Thursday (5/24) is still open any time of the day.  I might just go by myself since the lake at Bryant park is VERY shallow.

I'd LOVE to swim at Square Lake, it's just so far away.  Maybe on a weekend sometime.  I am signed up for the Square Lake tri.

Good luck with your race, Tom.  I would guess it feels like it snuck up on you!

Thanks. Getting out and swimming in OWS has snuck up on me. Last year I had the crazy idea of staying warm and out of the water until my wave started. What a shock to hit the water, I could hardly swim. I was really worried about Buffalo Oly. and having that same issue. But with the help of fellow BT'ers I figured out that I swim a lot better if I acclimate to the water first. So at Buffalo I went right in the water after the race meeting and stayed there until my wave started. Planning on doing the same in Albert Lea this time.

I just want to remind the body of what that feels like before Sunday.

With weather (wind) and schedules it looks like this week won't work for anyone

I may try to join you guys next Wednesday as well.

I need to. After my dismal performance this weekend on the swim split I need to get out in the open water.

I am planning on meeting up with the group on Wed. @ square lake.

Were you thinking of other times as well? I'm open.

I live in Bloomington, so Square Lake isn't feasible for me.  I usually swim at Bryant Lake or Bush Lake or even Nokomis works.

I live in Elk River but work down at 394\169. I am open to Bryant, not sure where Bush or Nokomis is.

I am very interested in swimming this Thursday (5/24).  My schedule is very flexible other than I am having an appliance installed and I will learn on Wednesday what my "window" is.  I am hoping they come in the morning, so a lunch or later swim would work for me.

I'll write again on Wednesday as soon as I know.   But if anyone is free on Wednesday, pencil it in.  I am determined to get into the lake.

Basically I want to get in somewhere and try to swim nonstop for 35 minutes as a confidence boost for the Oly.  So, if Bush Lake is a bit easier to do a longer distance, maybe that's the best choice?   In fact if someone could do Bush Lake in the later afternoon, early evening, I should be able to do it regardless of the appliance people. 

I also want to swim this weekend if possible. 

Now, only the weather to worry about...

Tom - if you wanted to swim this weekend, I can drive up to wherever you like swimming near Elk River.  I thought I remember you mentioned a lake option up there last year.   I am currently without plans this whole weekend, something must work!

Thanks for the offer. However, we are probably going up to the north shore this weekend. My challenge is to find a place to swim. And I don't think Superior is an option.

Where to start? At the top I guess.

Emily - We won't be going north this weekend (80% confidence) so if you are still interested in doing an OWS this weekend let's plan for it.

Square lake Wed. morning swim - I would like to join the group that does this, but I need more information on where and when and if you are still going to do it tomorrow with whether as it is projected to be

I am still looking to do some OWS over the next week and some so please let me know who is going where and when and I'll try to meet up with you.

Tom - Bryant Lake at 9:00 on Saturday morning is the plan I've been working on with ab_elfstrum.  Glad you can come!!!  

Now, fingers crossed for no crappy weather, like lightning.  I'll swim if it's misty/light rain, but obviously a storm would be a problem.

I am still open on Thursday - when would you be available?  I am 99% we can't swim in Shady Oak without catching trouble, but BL should be fine.

In the water at 6am, I think people get there about 5:45 to suit up and chat.  Park in the first lot, just above the beach, not sure if you need to pay at that time of day (I paid $5 to park on a Friday afternoon).  From what I've heard, you swim from buoy to buoy, some people swim the whole lake, about 2 miles, and others break off for 1-1.5 miles. 

I'm not there, wish there was a Friday group that swam there.  I did my first swim at this lake last week, and now I totally understand the hype.

I still did not find out where this was going to be at. However, if is the square lake in Washington county I will have to pass. If I am not correct, sorry to have missed you guys and could someone let me know where it is at?

I'm still planning on Saturday Monring at Lake Byrant.

Yeah, they are talking about the Square Lake in Washington County (way the heck out by Stillwater).

Hey Joel - we'd love to have ya.   Now, let's hope the weather is ok.  

I just started a new thread for this particular swim.

In fact, I am going to freeze this thread so we can't post to it anymore.
