Need some advice for bottom riding gear. In the market for new bottms just don't know where to go for best. I have some chaffing issues and ride on Adamo Typhoon that has helped alot with those issues. I have looked at Oomph, 2XU.....etc. Researched them but would like some opinions from those that have worn them during thier training. 112 miles is a long time to be uncomfortable.

I'm a DeSoto 400-mile short kinda gal. Took a little bit to get used to but won't race or ride long in anything else now.

I use Orca 226 shorts for everything, IM, HIM, century rides, everything. They're comfortable and no chaffing.

I've got a DeSoto 400 Mile bib that I'm wearing for over 100 mile bike only rides but I couldn't imagine running in it and don't particularly want to try.

This is a completely individual thing. What works for me may not for you. During your long training rides and bricks try out a couple different setups and see what works best.

If you want some extra padding you can go with traditional bike shorts and just change in the tent.  How long does it take to change from bike shorts to running shorts?  Maybe :30?

If you want to wear the same thing for the whole race try the Desoto 400 mile shorts.  They have a good pad and you can run in them.

I will be changing in the tent. That is a big part of the question as well. I don't need to spend $200 on shorts that I wont be running in. I'm looking for a good padded fit that has some compression to it for hte bike. Once the 112 is over, they are off and I am running in shorts. I saw the company Oomph, any thoughts?

It's an entirely personal choice and you'll find some that swear by those and others who say they just don't work for them.  FWIW, I always ride (and run) in tri shorts.  I just prefer them.  I use DeSoto, mostly.

Chafing often has to do with improper positioning on the bike or lack of (sufficient) lubricant usage.  But shorts and saddles can make a difference for some people, too.

Doesnt get much better than the DeSoto Forza Riviera shorts.   Have done two IM's in the same pair, and will be doing my third in August.   No shifting, no chafing, plenty of padding for the bike, but unnoticeable on the run.   Awesome.

x2. I never wear bike shorts for training or racing. Too much padding.

I have been using Desoto 400 for long rides and have run a couple miles in them with no issues. I wore the Desoto Carrera for the HIM and they rocked! I'm going to try the new Forzas in a half and see how they hold up (they are compression).

X2. I'd never want to run in the regular DeSoto 400 mile shorts. These have a similar pad, but it's cut back a bit so it's not noticeable at all when you run.

For my recent IM, I wore my most comfy roadie shorts, and another pair on top of that. 5 seconds extra dressing time is no big deal in this race. And finishing the bike, stripping off two pairs is as fast as 1.

I love having doubled up shorts on long rides though. Why not be as comfortable as possible...?

I have some OOMPH shorts with the distance pad - neoprene. I love them for my bike rides. I just recently got a pair of 400 miles shorts by DeSoto & they are easy to run in. Unfortunately, mine started unraveling within a week & I had to pay shipping back. I didn't particularly agree with that - considering the shorts were faulty. But they are nice shorts.

This is a common topic here and always seems like it is a pretty personal preference.  Having said that, other than in cold weather, I only wear tri shorts for rides these days, including centuries and IMs.  I've always liked Zoot and stick with them...have a pair of Oomph shorts that I thought I'd like, but didn't really...I find them okay for shorter rides.  (I've got the impression that Oomph tri shorts have been more popular with women than with men, but maybe I'm wrong there.)

x2, I don't even own a pair of bike shorts

I posted this same thing back early spring. Tri shorts, oomph shorts or the desoto 400 mile were the winning votes. However, the best suggestion and one I went with was wear trishorts under the 400 mile shorts on swim and bike then strip off 400 mile in t2. Worked great for me.

I trained and raced in 2XU competition shorts. Can't even wear bike shorts now.  I would find a pair that is comfy for you and use Body Glide (or similar).  Never any problems with chaffing. Spend the money on great shorts, you won't regret it. You will be training on long rides and comfort is a premium.  BTW, I don't think getting out of bike shorts in T2 will be an issue as much as getting into them wet from your swim in T1.

This is what I do exactly........more comfort on the bike and just strip off the top pair in T2

X2 on the Zoot Tri shorts....love them, wear them for most all rides, and even some training runs. I prefer them to my bike shorts; like others say, for me it is too much padding. Personal thing no doubt.

Another vote for Desoto Forza Riviera!
