A pic of him doing the Peregrine Charities Triathlon that was in his local paper.

What's really funny is that he would hate all this attention, which is why those of us who loved him thought it was great to give it to him

It does because he was skinny! That photo is flattering, though, because he was way uglier in real life.

John was a special person who I connected with via the transplant story having people close to me having given and received organs.  My thoughts and prayers are with those who knew and loved him.

crowny2 - 2012-05-09 7:41 AM Become an organ donor.  Let your family know.  John would be happy to know he helped out.

I'm a recipient of a ligament... minor, I know.  But a lot of the active things I do are thanks to someone else's generosity.  And I'll be happy to pass that kind of gift to others when my time comes.

Maybe you're on the fence, or maybe think it's no big deal - someone else will step up.  Just remember how many people with life-threatening problems are stuck on waiting lists.  Every person can make a difference.

We all know this. He was the only one brave enough, and tough enough, to tell me to my face.

So very sad.  His greatest legacy, most likely, would be to get more people to sign up as organ donors.  Do it today!

Sorry to read this today. Rest in peace and prayers for the family. I have a local friend who was the  recipient of a lung translplant 16 years ago. Organ donation is near and dear to my heart.

That's very sad news.  I never had the opportunity to meet him, but he was always one of those people who you paid attention to when he posted.  He was always willing to lend the rest of us the benefit of his experience.

You will be missed terribly, John.

Dang,

met john and his family in 2007. He has family down here and came down twice and did his first tri here in 2008. I remember how proud is family was of his performance and how he thought he should have done better. Really great guy, will be missed.
