I never met JD but remember him from BT. Whenever I would see one of his posts about any subject I would usually stop to read it. He was an interesting guy and I enjoyed hearing what he had to say. Sad. He will be in my thoughts and prayers.

Very sad news.  The guy was so classy.  How many other folks (males especially) could enjoy "The Bachelor" or "The Bachelorette" silliness?  I will miss his wit immensely.

This news breaks my heart. I remember reading about JD's transplant and how he encouraged other members of BT to become organ donors. I haven't been a regular on BT of late and was very surprised to hear his health took a turn for the worse. May he rest in peace - his message did not fall on deaf ears.

A little rememberance from his blog:

Last blog: NRG42 on 2011-01-31

Goal #1 - stay flipping healthy!!!  No more surgery.  No more broken bones.  No more infections.  Is that so much to ask?
1.Get under 2:30 at Hy-Vee.
2.Win Gold at the U.S. Transplant games in 2010 in the 5K Cycling Time Trial.
3.Complete a Half-Marathon.
4.Actually do enough races this year to get a USAT ranking in both Sprint and Olympic distances.

Races:

C.A.R.E. 10 K for Organ Donation Awareness
Dam to Dam 1/2 Marathon
Hy-Vee Triathlon
U.S. Transplant Games

Still several other races to decide on.
RAGBRAI 2010 with a group of BT'ers.  First half.  The dates conflict with the transplant games.

Long Term Goals
Marathon
70.3 Triathlon
Leadville sometime between 2012 and 2015 (Yes, I said Leadville).

Planned races:
Hy-Vee Triathlon (Triathlon)
9/2/2012 in Des Moines , Iowa
RaceLink (21 Members) - RaceReports

Des Moines Half Marathon (Run)
10/21/2012 in Des Moines , Iowa
RaceLink (2 Members) - RaceReports

Thanks for posting that link Phil...honestly, I had never seen John's picture.  What a beautiful family.  Life is just too short.

I don't post a lot on BT  but I do read a lot - and I'm incredibly saddened to hear of John's passing. One of the most consistently upbeat and positive people I've ever "met" ... the world has experienced a great loss, but heaven sure has gained an angel.

"Going to heaven is like picking flowers in a flower garden - you only pick the special ones."

My 6 year old has taken to telling "Why did the ___ cross the road" jokes lately.  One of them being as to why the bunny crossed the road.

We were walking home from the park the other day and saw I bunny.  I told him to go ask the bunny why he crossed the road.

And I was immediately reminded of the quote attributed to John - and in my "you've seen to many Monty Python movies" brain - I envisioned the Bunny saying that he wanted to live in a world where his motivation for crossing the street did not have to be questioned.

I was just at the Quad City Triathlon this last weekend.  He would be one of the course marshals in the past as well as helping out in transition.

I kept looking for him.

And thought about him the entire race.

I miss you John.
