Did anyone get an accurate GPS measurement of the run course? I gather it was less than 6.2 miles.  The turnaround on Lee Barton Dr didn't go as far up the street this year as in previous years...

Stude - 2012-05-24 3:24 PM Doing my final OWS practice tomorrow morning.  Anyone know the latest Town Lake water temp?  need to decide to practice in bouyant body covering or not.

I'm sure it will be wetsuit legal.  It always has been in previous years, and this year the weather hasn't been extremely hot.  The water in previous years never felt particularly cold, but by no means approaching no wetsuit temps.

I was wondering that too.  My time on the run was REALLY fast (for me) according to their timing.
My garmin was a little wonky around the buildings downtown so I was sure.

12 min pr. even after a swim disaster of 34min.

that water was so warm that I can't believe they really thought it would be wetsuit legal.

I am afraid that the run was short. I am not sure I am that fast.

I was chuckling about this as I was dog paddling on the water wondering why I was wearing the parachute tri top for the non wetsuit swim.  Don't feel bad. Athletes meeting as well yesterday, "they are going to flush the lake tonight so the water temp should be in the 60's or low 70's.  Then again they promised overcast and <80 weather.  I crashed on the swim but luckily pulled a decent bike and run out of my rear.

I wasn't wearing a Garmin, and I 100% agree the course sure felt short, but I just mapped it out and it was pretty close to 6.2 miles, according to Google/Trimble/whatever:

http://www.trimbleoutdoors.com/ViewTrip/1700515

I know I don't have a good map of the finish, but it is close.

Congrats to all the participants, I thought the race went off great.  This was my first Olympic distance, and man is it different than a sprint.  Wow.

Cheers,

Eric

Congratulations to all the finishers.  What a great race.

Seeing the Pro's and Para triathletes was very uplifting.   The run may have been a little short.  Of course I was out of gas by then and it seemed longer.   I could tell I was not ready for the race, but I was happy with my times.

Did anybody get in the cold water at Onerleft.com.  That was heaven.  WOW

Best to everyone on Memorial Day.

The ice baths after were awesome!  Dallas Athletes did that at their TexasMan last weekend and it was the first time I had seen it before.  Hope it catches on.

First olympic distance is in the books.  Really bizarre race -- my swim was shockingly fast, mostly because I couldn't see out my goggles and wasn't sure where I or my group was.  When I cleared the steps for T1 and looked at my watch, I was sure I was going to get a penalty for missing a buoy or something.

On the bike, my chain fell off twice, then I had a flat tire.  Totally depressed, thinking I was done, but I happened to flat 100m from the repair tent just below the Capitol grounds.

The run was hot as hell.  I saw people walking the first half mile, my buddy DQ'ed because of a calf cramp, and I was hurting myself.  I had to walk most of the exchange zones backwards on the second lap.

All in all, it was a lot of fun, but I'd like to smooth things out next time.  Swim slower, bike without a ten minute break in the middle, and run faster.

Was anyone racked with their age groups?  I'm not sure if I and other late registers were just lumped together, or everyone was racked somewhat randomly and not with their age group.

It was kind of nice to not have a crowd in T1 since I wasn't near anyone in my age group.  On the other hand I had about the longest possible trot-with-bike both out of T1 and back into T2...

Glad you guys like the ice baths. I'm the race director for all the Onurmark Production races (Kemah, Bridgeland, and Houston), and we have tons of them at all our races. When the race directors of CapTex asked us to bring them up, how could we say no?!

We will be (hopefully) officially announcing San Antonio and Fort Worth at some point next year. Regardless of where we put races on we invite all our out-of-towners to come on down and race in at least one of our events. Checkout www.onrumark.net for more about the ice bath races : ) Great job at CapTex, it was a good day for a lot of people. Glad to see everyone out there.

Thanks Onurleft those Ice baths were great.  Awesome.  Houston is a bit far for me with all the events in Central Texas, but if you do something in SA I will come.  Heard nothing but good about you guys.
