Im signed up. Who is going.

I just had to have a nasal septoplasmy and some scare tissue removed from my nose on May 4th.  Yesterday the Dr. removed the stints and dressing.  I felt like Arnold Schwartznegger in that movie Total Recall when they pulled that thing that looked like a ping pong ball out of his nose.  That was brutal.  Mr. Dr. says things look great let it heel and I should be able to start full training in six more days.   My wife says last night was the first peaceful night sleep she had in months my snoring never woke her up.  A likely story.  But, I am excited to get back on Monday I think I am going to start out with a swim bike, then swim run and increase my time every other day.  Any advice on taking 8 days off then going back.

Good luck to all.

I'm doing the swim as part of a relay team.... those of you that have done this in the past, how's the water temp been?  I'd prefer NOT to wear a wetsuit if it's warm enough... I know, I'm weird...

I'd guess that the water will be in the mid 70s.  In the four or five times I've done Captex the water has never been overly cold.  I think you'd be fine without a wetsuit if you're used to swimming without one in this type of water temps.

The water is the perfect temp for going without a wetsuit.

I have done this race several times without a wet suit.  One time there were only 3 people in my wave without a wet suit.   I am thinking on a wet suit for this race.  Does anyone know if stippers are available.

I never paid attention so I assuming they were available.

I seem to remember that there were strippers there last year, but not in previous years.  Could be mistaken, though.

I'm in and can't wait for this one.  I haven't swum in Town Lake since the old Aquafest boat parade regatta back in the 80's.

I am signed up, but if they screw up the packet pickup like last year it will be my last Cap Tex.  Looking forward to the race though.

I'll be racing Age Group this year and will always take the wetsuit if they'll let me wear it.

Yah.  Me too.  If I see Rick I will ask him.  We met at the Lake Travis Tri.   You think they will have it this year?  Lake is coming up.

Good luck.

I emailed Rick the Race Director for Captex.  I ask him about wetsuits and strippers.  His response was:

Wetsuits are allowed

There will be wet suit strippers.

I'm in.  Coming all the way from DC for a weekend in my old stomping grounds.  What's the race course like?  I hear that the bike is a little crowded.

Bike does get a bit sketchy towards the last loop.  Lots of people on the course.  End of Olympic, plus sprint and first time race all converging. You have to be very aware on this whole course.

It's still fun to race downtown.

I don't recall it closing last year but I may be wrong.  I was wondering same thing last year because my swim start was fairly late...but I don't recall the announcer ever warning racers that transition area was about to close.

I like your signature line, btw.

In, wearing a wetsuit, did the sprint last year, this will be my first Oly.  Last year they were really weird about closing transition and had volunteers out there saying it would close at 7:00 (my wave was at 9:00 or something).  Cooler heads prevailed, fortunately, but for some reason these guys don't like to announce when (or if) transition closes.

The closing thing matters to me b/c I'm type I Diabetic and I wear an insulin pump I have to leave @ transition before the swim.

Shooting for sub 3:10.  Heat may crush my dreams, we'll see.  Good luck to everyone.

Cheers,

Eric

The transition area closing times are always confusing, for athletes AND volunteers. Because the pros, Olympic, Sprint, Relay and First-Timers all start at different times, it makes closing transition challenging. Especially since its all one big open area.

You have to close it some time, to prevent stragglers and folks potentially messing with their competitor's equipment, but still giving all the waves that start much later plenty of time to access their bikes.

The best advice is to get in early, get your stuff ready quickly, and get out as soon as you can, so that you can try to relax before the start.

I'll be there volunteering, so good luck to everyone racing!

Cool

Hey Eric, I'm a T1 diabetic on a (not waterproof) pump as well!  I hear you on the transistion issue.  If they have a table by the swim out (outside transition), you can usually leave your pump there so you don't have to stay disconnected for so long. The trick is remembering to pick it up (yes I have a story to tell about the longest T1 in history on that one).  Better yet, if I my hubby is there as in this one, I'll typically ask the RD if he can pass it off to me at a designated spot or at least guard a bag I'll leave it in.  Usually they will make an exception to the "no outside assistance" rules for this, but I'm not sure on this particular race.  Not sure why this would be any different than allowing wetsuit strippers.  Anyway, good luck!  I'll look for your pump and say hello if we bump into each other.

I'm hoping to be racing, but a newly discovered crack in the frame of my bike has made it NOT advisable to ride it.  Have a rental lined up and some great friends who have offered to loan me bikes, so hopefully all works out with me on some form of two wheeled contraption to ride!

I didn't notice time for transition closing in the the online race packet.  In the past, they opened and closed the Olympic and Sprint transitions at different times.

My first CapTex I did a Sprint and stayed in the Sprint transition area to watch the Olympic competitors do their transitions.  I think there was a fence between the two transition areas that year.  I don't think there was one last year.
