Don't really know if I'm actually racing this sprint later this month, but will definitely attempt to be there.

I see a few others racing...

Anyone else racing?

What can you tell me about this race?

How hilly is the course?

Dood,

I'll be there.

They are having a practice session tomorrow morning at 8am.  It would be a good time to scout the bike course, which is very hilly.  Kind of like a shortened version of Pinehurst!

I think they are even setting up the swim buoys tomorrow and having the run course marked.

Several Sandspurs and some Fayetteville Tri Warriors have planned to be there.  Should be a pretty large group.

I'm planning to race it too. Hilly bike and the run is a mix of roads and trails.

If you decide to come to the practice tomorrow, we are meeting at the Woodlake marina at 8.

Hi there I have done this race several years now. It is a great course. The bike portion of the course is rolling on mostly country roads so not a lot of traffic to worry about. The run is on trail and road surfaces and is not hilly at all. I will mention that it says its a 5k but it is more like 2.85 miles. Just thought I would mention the difference between the advertised distance and the actual distance. Race is a pretty large race so get there early! they don't have you rack your bike by race number. At least not the last time I did the race.

Get there early.  As mentioned by the previous poster, rack spaces are first come, first served, so the prime spaces go quickly.  Also, the close parking will fill up fast, so get there early to get a space in the field closest to transition.

Will be there early! I've sent in my registration and can't wait to rock this race!

The bike looks harsh, but any ride can be harsh if you don't prepare for it!

Thanks for the advice and look forward to seeing any of you racing there!

Booyah!

For those of you that have done Woodlake, is this a mass start, or does the swim start in waves?

How are pre and post race activities for families?

If my family arrives closer to the tri start time, how far will they have to walk to the race? I have small kids, so just trying to plan that out.

Thanks!

It is a family friendly event. The transition/post race area is a little small, but if she brings a blanket or something to sit on she should be fine. I should point out that there are only a couple of porta pottys. There is always a line.

Depending on how late she gets there, she may have a little bit of a walk to the race start.

It is a very laid back/relaxed race.

I should point out that there aren't really "activities" for the kids.

Some pics of the swim start and transition!

The swim will be an out and back, keeping buoys to your right.

Looks like getting out of transition will be kind of messy (sandy).

See you ppl there tomorrow!

you should be moving so fast through transition that the sand won't have time to stick.

haha! I actually rode on my shoes for about half a mile and the sand was all blown away.

This was a fun race! Atmosphere was pretty nice post race, too! Boy, that bike course is to be respected! There were enough hills and areas to really make you work hard! The run was a trail run, for the most part, with lots of mud!

Nice to meet a bunch of the Sand Spurs Tri Club members!
