I'm really looking forward to this race.

 - I really love racing the Mountain Man Events in Flagstaff

- I've done the HIM once and th OLY 3 times, but never done the sprint

- I haven't done a sprint in a long time

- My sister and bro-in-law will be racing with me. it'll be his first triathlon

- no big hill at 8 miles on the bike and no big hill to run up either!

This is the only sprint distance I seem to do each year now - and it is a fun race.  As you said, no 15% grade hill on the bike, and no run up the hill towards Marshall Lake (it is much more fun to turn around RIGHT when you get to the Marshall Lake hill road - mocking it until August when it will have its revenge).

The water is a comfortable 72ish for this race - enough to go without a wetsuit, but as always, if wetsuits are legal, I am in one!

Just get to the lake early on race morning - the road and parking can be a bit frustrating if you are a last-minute 'arriver.'

For those who plan to race the Mtn Man Oly or 70.3 in August, this is a great warm up, as it gets you acclimated to the thinner air (most recognizable while swimming - in my opinion), and if you have the juice after the race, you can ride out to the big hill and back (roughly 20-25 miles round trip), and you can always go run the Marshall Lake hill (but why?).

I haven't done a sprint in 5 years. I was thinking of doing this one to prepare for the Boulder 70.3 I'm doing in August, but do you guys think a sprint distance will really do any good? I'd do the Olympic, but that's after Boulder, so there's no point.

Adela - I think any race does good.  However, if on your training plan you have more in store for this particular weekend, I would opt for your training regimen rather than the race.  However, if you want to race, then join up for a ride (25mi or so) afterward - that is my current plan.  The back-end ride will include the big hill on Lake Mary Rd, which should be good training for Boulder and their well-known hill.

I think that I'll do the Half Ironman at MM as a practice for SOMA, my A race for HIM this year.

How is your rehab coming along?

Going well, thanks!  Last week of PT so hopefully I can start adding in some pool time next week.  Range of motion is doing great with just the smallest bit of comfort issues at the very limits of extension/rotation.

Sounds like we'll have a good BT turnout at this race. My fiancee and Steve, another BTer, will be up there too ...should be super fun. Perhaps we can plan a pre-race BT dinner or an early "after race" beer and lunch. My lady and I are actually heading up there this weekend for some long training and to get out of this damn heat!

I'll see all y'all at the race! A post race beer and lunch sounds great! Let me know if there is a BT pre race dinner someplace. I'm looking forward to getting out of the heat.
Good luck Jasen, Kim and all the racers. We'll all have a great time!

How did this 2012 race thread pop up?

I'm doing the sprint- but as a relay. My 14yo niece is doing the swim and wife doing the run.

Oops...My bad!! It's this darn new and improved website. I was looking at the thread that I started about the MM bike course and there was a "related topics" section below that had this thread at the top of the list. I guess I didn't think to look at the dates and assumed it was a newer thread. Oh, well...I guess that eliminates the need to start a 2013 version, eh??

You can easily do it without a wetsuit. My sister and my 14yo niece were just swimming in it yesterday without one

I think the MM Sprint was my fav race last year. Beautiful course and really deep, competitive field.

Just got back from vacation and I think I'm still in "relax" mode, but I'm leaning toward signing up.

I just know that if I head up to Flagstaff I'm going to want to do the Snowbowl Rd climb and the Pay N Take ride on Saturday and possibly burn myself up for the race :-P
