Age Group Rank = 8/11
Event warmup:

I rode my bike to the event, ~3km, walked around a lot, and swam 150m before we started.
Swim
  • 28m 37s
  • 1500 meters
  • 01m 55s / 100 meters
Comments:

The person ahead of me wasn't there so I had a 10 second wait before I started. I tried to bridge the gap to catch a draft from the faster swimmers but was getting too tired before I could catch them and had to let them go. A few then passed me and I stayed with them but the faster guys must have broken away and the guy in front of me started slowing down. He really cost me some time! I eventually re-passed him and tried again to catch up to the lead pack. I was gaining but there wasn't enough race left.
What would you do differently?:

Train enough to bridge the gap and pick up the good draft pack. Pass sooner when the guy in front slows down.
Transition 1
  • 03m
Comments:

Long run from the pool with a methodical, careful gear change. Time estimated.
Bike
  • 1h 14m
  • 40 kms
  • 32.43 km/hr
Comments:

A steady ride, with a bit of wind in places but light compared to our usual gales here.
What would you do differently?:

Train! This was done on next to nothing for bike training.
Transition 2
  • 02m
Comments:

Estimated time.
Run
  • 1h 17m 40s
  • 10 kms
  • 07m 46s  min/km
Comments:

The run is where my lack of training really caught up to me. A very disappointing performance, though not unexpected.
What would you do differently?:

Train! I haven't run more than 5km at a time in the last 8 months, and seldom more than 10km per week in that time too. I also went to the race with no gels or drink other than water, and this was the first time that they only had water on the course.
