New to a tri bike this season.  My water set up (at least this year) is a water bottle on the down tube and the other between the bars torpedo style.  I don't want to go with the profile bottle w/ straw or any of the other options. Happy with the current setup.  However, in order to drink I sit up and I am no longer in the aero position. Is it possible to drink from this setup and stay aero? Not sure how I feel about going one handed on the tri bars, however, if it is possible I will start practicing.  Thoughts or tips will be appreciated. Thanks!

Yes, it is possible, and quite easy with a little practice.

Yes...it's possible, just practice.

Also remember that bike handling is easier with speed.

Being a "Newbie" to a tribike myself, I found it rather difficult to try and steer with one hand and pull a bottle.  I posted a short video on my method and I think it works pretty slick.  Click the link below...

Yes it's entirely possible. Keep practicing. No need to get creative.

Yes, as others have already said, certainly can be done.  I only use traditional bottles and often stay in aero to drink (I don't know about anyone else, but I find it's easiest with the bottle held out to the side).  However, when I'm also taking in nutrition (gels or blocks), I usually sit up until after I've followed them with a drink...I find it is easier to handle if I stay up for a minute or two afterwards.

Yes with practice but imop until you get real comfortable with it I would not sweat the temporary loss in aero unless those seconds will be the matter of getting a podium spot.

Staying hydrated will increase your performance to the point where you will actually gain time from sitting up to drink versus staying in aero and not getting sufficient liquids.

OK, but what if he learns to drink while in aero?  It really isn't that hard.

And in disclosure here, I may sit up to take in something at times, but it will be while going up a hill. Where aero isn't as much of an advantage. Otherwise, keep practicing on staying down. Like with so many other things, it becomes easier with practice over time.
