Intrigued but they should have put up course info before announcing and opening registration or at the very least we expect the bike to be hilly/flat and the run hilly/flat..... etc...   Oh well, maybe for me as well.

However, these shark jokes.....is there a problem with Great Whites in Cabo??

FYI, "Selachophobia"

  1. fear or dislike of sharks

I just spent a long weekend sleeping on the beach in central Mexico and driving across the country in an open jeep to get there just this past weekend.

No problems.

Last time I was in Mexico, about two months ago; no problems.

The time before that; no problems.

I swam at a secluded beach in the Sea of Cortez. Here is a photo I shot the day before yesterday (Saturday):

No. I have been OWS, snorkeling , and scuba diving there for years and have yet to see a shark or hear about an incident involving one.

I think the biggest threat is Montezuma's Revenge!

Yeah, Cabo is safe.

But what would stop me:

1.  The ocean is pretty darn cold in March over there!  I was surprised after the majority of my vacations being in the Caribbean.   Not even the locals were dipping in a toe in late January when I visited.  How much will it warm up in 2 months?

2.  Cabo San Lucas, and presumably Los Cabos, is pretty expensive.   My food budget was about 200% higher than I planned.  Great, quality restaurants.  But pricey.

3.   Flying to Mexico is no longer a cheap/easy venture.  This would have appealed more 5 years ago.

It's hard to get around #3, but I'd go to Cozumel instead and skip the issues with 1 and 2.   Imho.

All that said, when I went for a morning run around the harbor in CSL on my trip I never felt so loved.   All of the guys getting ready for the tourist trade cheered for me and my girlfriend. I am not exactly a supermodel, so it was pretty fun.  I was cheered for (nice, polite stuff) more than I get in some races.   I've never experienced that anywhere!

They added a course description on the site.  No elevation maps yet.  I am doing my first HIM in September (Augusta) and was planning on making Florida my first full in Nov 2013.  I am thinking about making this my first.

I have the Half Sep 30,  the Rock n Roll Vegas Marathon on December 2 (which I plan on running slow), and the date for Los Cabos is March 17th.   Think its doable.....or wait until November (which is really...really....far off)....or make Florida my second?

If this is what replaced IMSG then that sucks. How do they come up with picking these places? Do some market research, ask around on BT.com and ST.com and take some polls.
