Overall Rank = 178/372
Age Group = 30-34
Age Group Rank = 13/16
Pre-race routine:

Got up 5am and had a plain cinnamon raisin bagel with some water. Met up with some new tri friends Dan, Judy, and Verga and his wife.
Event warmup:

Did a little dynamic stretching before the swim start. Not much warm up because I was so deep in the line for the snake swim so I didn't see how it would help.
Swim
  • 06m 49s
  • 300 meters
  • 02m 16s / 100 meters
Comments:

Good swim and caught me off guard with the salt water. Learned about toe tapping for passing and also how to pass without toe tapping which takes a little more out of you :)
What would you do differently?:

Not much really, it was my first tri and the snake swim was a good learning tool and I know if I get tapped to mover over. Learn something new everyday :).
Transition 1
  • 03m 2s
Comments:

When you exit the swim it is a little bit of a run to the transition area. I felt this went well and I had new shoes and new pedals only the day before. I wore socks because I hadn't gotten a chance to see how they worked. Overall it was good I had a little trouble clicking in but other than that it went well.
What would you do differently?:

More practice with new pedals and cleats will help for next time. Maybe no socks for another sprint?
Bike
  • 38m 58s
  • 12 miles
  • 18.48 mile/hr
Comments:

Nice flat course with some rolling hills. I went out a little fast and it bit me. Settle down about mile 3-4 and got into a good cadence and speed. Probably would have averaged closer to 20 if it wasn't for the first 3-4 miles.
What would you do differently?:

Not much except pacing myself a little better. I think not clipping in right away got me a little frustrated.
Transition 2
  • 01m 14s
Comments:

Had a little trouble clicking out of my left foot as I was trying to dismount. No falls luckily just didn't pop out as easy as I was hoping.
What would you do differently?:

Just need to adjust my pedals a little. I think in the future with some practice I will work on pedaling out of shoes.
Run
  • 26m 24s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 08m 29s  min/mile
Comments:

Not a bad run. It was getting warm by then and the turnaround was at the top of one of the longer rolling hills. Heart rate got a little high here but was able to regain since it was right back down the hill. Was holding a good pace until then.
What would you do differently?:

Pace a little better. It was my first time to do all three together and go that long on the bike and then run. I felt pretty good so wouldn't change much.
Post race
Warm down:

light stretching and ate some of the great spread they had. Hung out with some of the local tri folks I met and cheered them and others on.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Swim issues and coming out to fast on the bike.

Event comments:

Great race and I will do again next year. My son wants to do the kids tri that is the day before so we will make a it a family weekend again! Great job by all there and was a great experience for my first tri! Was also good to see the three physically challenged atheletes out there. Truly motivational and awesome to see!
