Total Time = 3h 15m 33s
Overall Rank = 115/135
Age Group = 40-44
Age Group Rank = 14/15
Pre-race routine:

Arrived early to set up transition and tried to relax. Sipped a Monster drink and visited with racers I knew.
Event warmup:

Went down to the lake and got into the water without the wetsuit and decided to swim san-wetsuit.
Swim
  • 37m 55s
  • 1500 meters
  • 02m 32s / 100 meters
Comments:

Felt good on the way out, but got off course at the first turn and struggled with siting the rest of the way. I think my form fell apart a little (my stroke was uneven).
What would you do differently?:

Need to continue to work on my siting and building my stroke rate.
Transition 1
  • 04m 12s
Comments:

Took too long getting the sand off my feet.
What would you do differently?:

Have towel ready for cleaning feet.
Bike
  • 1h 21m 10s
  • 24.85 miles
  • 18.37 mile/hr
Comments:

Tried to not push it too much on the ride out. Felt like I rode within myself. On the way back I was fighting the wind a lot more than I expected. My speed dropped to 15-16mph after averaging around 20mph on the way out.
What would you do differently?:

Continue to work on leg strength, bike position, and buy a new bike.
Slower than last year and it was windier last year.
Transition 2
  • 01m 43s
Comments:

Good transition.
What would you do differently?:

Should have grabbed some nutrition for the run.
Run
  • 1h 10m 35s
  • 6.21 miles
  • 11m 22s  min/mile
Comments:

I knew this would be a struggle with the ITBS issues. I was hoping to get a 10:00/mile average, but I just didn't have it in me. I felt alright except for the knee.
What would you do differently?:

I need to heal up and get back at it next year.
Post race
Warm down:

Ate some salt and vinegar potato chips and drank some more water. I tried to catch up with the other racers.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Fitness level and ITBS issue.

Event comments:

I probably shouldn't have tried to race with the ITBS issue, but I thought I could still get in a decent swim and bike. Since those two also failed to pan out, I am disappointed in my performance. Overall, still only 10 minutes slower than last year and still 10 minutes faster than 2010.
