Subject: RE: Kayak Tri mmgoldenb - 2012-05-22 1:55 PM Has anyone done a Kayak tri (Kayak rather than swim)? Tips? Sources of information? How does one Transitions with a Kayak? Thanks! I've done one, was signed up for a second but they cancelled the water part before I got there due to high winds. I transitioned quite poorly. It took me forever to get out of the thing. What leg is it? The first? You'll probably have an in water start. Then you're only dealing with one awkward transition. (The race with high winds is a bike - paddle - run format.) The only other tip I have is this, and if you already know this, I apologize. I thought I would do myself a favor getting a small cheap kayak that fit on top of my car. Looked great being able to rack a bike and strap a kayak on a small ford focus. But since I do not do a lot of paddling, I discovered too late that this was the worst option. You want a long boat. A small cheap kayak does not travel well through water. You want something that looks more like college crew team boats. I would bet that the race has an associated outfitter that rents boats for the day, and may even deliver them to the site, and pick them up. They say nothing new on race day, but you could always rent a similar one a weekend before the race. Post a RR. I'm trying to put together a kayak tri event in our area, and I am gathering all the experiences I can to make some decisions. |
