JasenGuy - 2012-05-25 9:57 AM Geez, what's the point of all this exercise if all you're going to eat is dry oatmeal and peanut butter? I'm about to kill a bagel, egg, sausage and cheese sandwich with a a side of hash browns and some bacon. Wash it down with a double shot of espresso and maybe some chocolate milk...Then maybe I'll think about what I want for breakfast.
I very much enjoy the food I eat. I don't look at food as a reward, during the week it's a tool. But I also enjoy every bit of my healthy choices and on occassion have an indulgence for fun. You can't always assume people who choose to eat helathy are denying themselvbes happiness, quit the contrary in my case.

LOL!! Yeah, my comment was mostly said in jest...I have a pretty clean diet as well. People always wonder how I can go my whole life "dieting", but like you, I enjoy eating healthy. And if done right, eating healthy taste much better than the alternative.

With that being said, it's the Friday before a holiday weekend and I'm celebrating...Bring on the bacon!!!

..and beer!!!!

Might I recommend Blue Moon's  Summer Honey Wheat  beer?   Discovered it a week ago and can only say, "Oh, my."    Cool

Thanks for posting this...
Do you consistently maintain your weight with a diet like this or do you find yourself losing?
Do you know ballpark how many calories/carbs/protein you intake daily?

Hi Lisa. Regarding calories/carb/protein intake I have no idea. I have never counted calories or specific nutrional content of what I eat. I simply eat a diet heavy on whole foods, organic, gluten free (a recent change I adopted out of curiousity and feel it really added to helping me stay lean and I feel good). I never eat highlt refined or processed food, stuff in packages, fats food, fried food, ect. My poor wife... My weight is pretty consistent now but it used to swing a lot before I really cleaned it up more, cut out breakfast, restricted training calories when appropriate, and going gluten free. I used to swing between 162-172 lbs depending on the time of season and training load. Now I am 158-164, 158 being my race weight. I didn't target that, it's just where I ended up and feel good at that weight. As an almost 44 year old man, even with the training volume I do every year, I need to be very aware of putting on weight. There are overweight people on my Mom's side of the family. I don't use my training as an excuse to eat, I can't if I want to achieve what I want from the sport.

On the gluten free note, I've pretty much adopted a GF diet simply because my gf has celiacs.  Can't say I ever gave it much thought beyond being a "fad" but honestly, I find myself feeling quite a bit better and the weight is really starting to peel off of me now.  About the only gluten I get now is in beer

First meal of the day is always one of two things:

1. plain oatmeal (with water and almond milk, unsweetened) and a banana, or..

2. low-sugar organic O's cereal with banana slices and honey and almond milk.

I ate: the rest of a cantaloupe, 2 small peaches, some grapes, 1 hard boiled egg, 2 spoonfuls of p-nut butter, a small slice of streusel apple cake, a piece of cheese, and 3 cups of coffee. I think that's all. We're pretty much out of food at home.

I never eat before a regular morning workout (3-6 miles run or bike trainer).  I usually wait 30-45 minutes to eat breakfast after the workout with the thought of burning what is already there as opposed to adding something new to burn.

Breakfast today - two hard boiled eggs and 1/2 grapefruit & a few blueberries.  Monday it was a leftover salmon steak and a few blueberries.  Sometimes its Kashi, skim milk, and a few blueberries, strawberries, or banana slices.  Sometimes its a toasted PB & banana sandwich

I used to be able to workout before eating...I still can, I just run out of fuel so I cant go as far or as hard. I started eating before workouts to fuel the increasing volume. My metabolism just might be higher than anyone elses on the planet!

I basically try to eat as much as possible every single day.

This thread is making me hungry...

Today I had an evening ride.  My pre-ride meal consisted of pizza and wings.  Not my normal choice, but it is Friday!

Pretty much the same thing every morning:

-- 1.5 cup(s) of low fat greek yogurt

-- 1 cup of Cascadia maple brown sugar granola

-- Strawberries or blueberries

-- Dash of cinnamon

-- Squirt of Stevia

Plus a couple cups of coffee and I'm good to go.

Took my daughter and her bestie to the diner for 2 pancakes, 2 eggs, 2 sausage - Then took a 45 min nap!

Oh - normal breakfast is 1 packet of plain oatmeal and a banana or apple for my mid morning snack.
