I'll check with the Oregon folks as well, but did anybody here do this race last year or is anybody planning on doing it this year? I haven't done a Rev3, but I hear participants seem to like them, although I don't know the details of why that is. I read they were thrown a curve late before last year's race when one of the communities bailed out and they had to move it to Blue Lake. Looks like a new bike course this year but the swim is still at Blue Lake. Does anybody have any info on the Portland race or Rev3 races in general?

Thanks!

Oohhh, nice profile. That looks like what, about 1,000 foot climb in about 4-5 miles? Nice! Thanks for sharing.

Wow!!! Thanks for the course map! Awesome! I'm down for the Rev3 half this year (my first Rev3 race and 2nd half). Heard the bike would be hilly and the run would be flat. Looking forward to it! Gotta keep pounding my hills here, yikes!

I'm signed up but I didn't do it last year.

The half this year is hilly but the Olympic distance race is pretty flat.  It goes right along the Columbia river, so it'll be windy.

Edit:

also Brad, check with ratherbeswimming (Elaine) if you want more general Rev3 info, as she's sponsored.  She'll be at the Portland race also.

yea, bout 1k in 4 miles, but what i wasn't prepared for were the steep, almost switchback sections of the climb where the grade can spike to 20ish percent (if you hug the inside/white line)

also, as a note.  10 mph turns on those decents need to be respected!  They are sharp and only a few have gravely shoulders.

keep that in mind if you are racing carbon wheels in portland, hint hint rain?

How did it go for those of you who did the Portland half? That bike course was the real deal, but I loved it. Very challenging and never boring. I saw some people at the hotel on race morning that were seriously intimidated. I heard a few people setting up in transition saying they bought a new cassette the day before the race after previewing the course.

The only part of my race I was disappointed in was the swim. I thought I swam really well, especially for me. No pauses to catch my breath, no traffic jams, lots of smooth, strong strokes. I was excited to get out of the water and see my time and was very disappointed to see I swam a slower pace than I did at an Olympic in same lake a month earlier when I thought I had a terrible swim. Ugh.

Are the number of participants at Rev 3 races always that low? Not that I'm complaining because I like smaller races, but I wonder how they can survive with relatively few participants.

Super bummed I missed it but health first I guess.  I love climbing.

I'm not sure about the # of participants but Lake Stevens moved from August back to July this year so that probably leeched away some potential racers.
