Swim
Comments: Got behind some bozo who wouldn't let me pass. He got a nice fisting up the A$$ on one of my flipturns...after that it was smooth sailing by him. Funny thing was I could hear him grunt underwater as he was taking it wrist deep. DANG that must have hurt! What would you do differently?: Wear gloves and give the guy a break with some water resistant lube...and cut my nails. Transition 1
Comments: Can't really say what my time was since this race didn't give splits. My swim time include the transition though. I'll go ahead and mention this here...The transition from the swim to the bike was different this year and we had to run through a lot of street gravel. I ended up getting a stone lodged in my heel, yes it punctured the skin. The stone was about the size of a pea in diameter and was flush with my skin. When we (I) got the stone out (several people just looked and then decided to wait for medical help) it was about 1/4 inch deep in my foot. Due to accidents on the course all medical help at the finish line was no where to be found and I had to play doctor at home. What would you do differently?: The fact that I never noticed the rock enter in my foot was a good thing...means I was focused. Bike
Comments: Mind you I've got this 1/4 inch rock in my left heel...still didn't notice it. What would you do differently?: Remember to have my garmin 305 edge ready and set up correctly. Transition 2
Comments: At this point I started to panic...I couldn't remember if I had done 2 or 3 laps of the bike course. I felt so good that it seemed impossible that I could have finished so easily...I started to look at my garmin for conformation on the total distance travled but I didn't have that as one of my 8 billion windows set up. Transition time for T2 is in the bike time. What would you do differently?: Again have the garmin set up correctly. Run
Comments: I noticed pain at this point in my left foot but was more worried about whether or not I had done 2 or 3 laps on the bike route to let that little pain bother me. Post race I was able to look at my garmin and tell that I stopped...yes I stopped on the run to try and get the damn thing to show me how far I'd gone to ease my mind about the bike. I stopped for aprox. 33seconds. If you subtract that time from my run result I would have placed 15th overall on the run or 6th overall for the whole race. Now you factor in that I was running on a rock imbeded in my heel...that's got to be worth at least 5 seconds per mile or 17 lost seconds now putting me in pretty good contention for 5th overall...ugh I hate how I have all these excuses...I just need to do it and forget about what I couldn't accomplish this time. What would you do differently?: Never, Never, Never, stop for anything as stupid as what I did...it would have been better to be DQ'd after the fact then to have worried about it on the whole run like I did. Post race
Warm down: Stand around and talk waiting for the award ceremonies. What limited your ability to perform faster: Rock in foot / Garmin set up / really just me. Last updated: 2006-05-31 12:00 AM
