There is plenty of talk in the Boise70.3 thread about people doing Issaquah as a warm up so I figured I'd make a post to see who all is in. I'm still debating but should make my choice in the next day or two.

x2 I'm in.  Does anyone know if the no passing bike zone the same as last year?  I don't recall the foot touch, stop and go rule.

The no-passing zone is one of the reasons I'll never race this course again. Foot-down rule? I'll have to not comment, as this is a family-oriented forum...

I had to scratch plans to race this on Saturday. I've got a minor issue with my toe that I want to get cleared up so I'm taking a few days off of running and will be focusing on light biking and swimming for the rest of my taper for Boise. Good luck to all the people racing....

I'll also be there this Saturday. Some things I found interested like you guys mentioned was the stop and touch your foot on the ground rule. Also, they are charging $10 for parking at the site!

Fit4Infinity - I noticed your profile photo. I'm also a RTB member! Will probably see you at the race.

Expect the NO pass zone again, it is there for safety reasons.  I saw someone actually attempt to pass last year & get caught in a nasty wreck, so it should be observed.  But with that said it is why I most likely won't do this race again, as I'm an older guy, so we start last, but my biking is in the top 10%, and it just kills me that I can't pass until after the Costco!

PeteDin2006, looking forward to Boise too!!!  Looks like it's going to be a warm one.

Yeah the weather predictions are all over the place for Boise. Once we get closer to the race we should have a better idea.

I'll be there. What is a foot down rule?  And how long is the no passing zone on the bike?

I just read the rules.  I see it.  Why do they make you stop and touch a mat? I've never heard of that.

OMG!! I just read the "toe touch" section of the rules... Most ludicrous thing I've seen. Potential for much carnage there.

Why are they doing it? I see it as a CYA for their volunteers who seemingly don't know how to stop vehicular traffic when a bike is coming through. I've done the race a couple times (Issaquah and Lake Sammamish Tri) and done lead motorcycle for the bike portion on Lake Sammamish a couple times, and this area where they cross the main entrance road IS an area that could have two-way bike traffic and vehicular cross traffic. Making the riders stop there ISN'T the solution. I see the potential for a pile-up, blocking oncoming bikes, not solving the issue with cross traffic (though if they're stopping the bikes to let cars through, that's also NOT the solution).

I see nothing good coming from this...

Did I miss the toe touch and no passing zone on the course today? I didn't see either. A lot of cyclists were passing in the incoming bike lane to pass slower cyclists because the bike lane was so narrow. Didn't look like there were any marshals enforcing the no passing zone.

The toe touch and no pass zones were definitely not enforced. On the way back in I saw about 6 or 7 bikers pass a slow biker in the no pass zone and get a bit squirrelly dodging cones. Would have been nice if there was someone there to enforce the no pass zone.

In my eyes there was some confusion... the PA announcer said before the swim waves that the toe touch rule was not in effect and said that those where "old rules." I think a lot of people might have taken that as neither toe touch or no pass is enforced anymore. Anyways good race overall!

As my second race, I don't have much to compare it too but overall I had a lot of fun.  Bike was quite congested in the beginning and end and the "no pass" in the rules left me a bit confused as to whether I was allowed to get around the slower people?

Can't wait for Seafair Olympic now!  First one at that distance.
