Im planning on trying them out at an HIM so I can see if I like them for my IM. Question is when do you put them on? Both are going to be non wetsuit swims. Are they legal to wear in the swim?

I'm pretty sure compression gear (like socks and sleeves) are not legal during the swim, but I could easily be wrong.

I put mine on in T1.  I had them rolled in my shoes and rolled them onto my arms. I guess people have stuffed foam into their compression wear for the swim so the compression wear is not legal anymore on the swim.

I could not find any reference to this in the USAT rules. Is it a local thing or an RD rule?

After looking, I couldn't find anything saying so either. But I could have sworn i've heard they are illegal. Maybe a RD rule idk

At Florida 70.3 last week compression sleeves on arms or legs were not allowed during the swim.  This was specifically pointed out during the orienttion meeting.  This race was not wetsuit legal.

I think they're not allowed because there are some wetsuit sleeves (they look like arm warmers). So the RD isn't going to go after every person with a arm cooler/warmer and double check.

I think if you practice with them with your wet arms, and determine what works best, then go for it by putting them on in T1.

Did a HIM Distance race last June and wore my arm warmers for the whole bike.  Sleeveless top.  Put them on in T1.  Took at little bit of extra time, but felt good the entire race.  Off in T2.
