Big toe hurts after race?

i just finished Mooseman yesterday. And after the race(2-3 hrs), my left big toe felt weird and was hurting. I noticed about 6pm that it was slightly swollen and a little red. Its right at the joint. Its not throbbing or anything but I can't move it 100%. And it hurts when I apply pressure. It hurts about the same as yesterday. I did trip on some roots after the swim. But I don't remember ever feeling pain or that stubbed toe feeling. The only other thing I can't think of is my shoes weren't tied tight so could it have been jamming in my shoes and its just bruised? I can't figure this out. Thoughts?
