Subject: How many calories do I need??
I am 5'7" and weigh usually between 120-125, female. I recently started training for my first Tri. I usually exercise 6 days a week anywhere from 1-2 1/2hrs a day. I am not trying to loose any weight just maintain. I am finding myself hungry all the time I normally have between 2,000-2,500 calories a day. Do I need to up this even more?? I eat lean meats, lots of fruit and veggies and some grains and pastas. Help! :-(

Hi tjbahl. I'm in exactly the same boat as you. Same weight, height, working towards my first tri, and always hungry. You know, you might try eating a handful of nuts (ie: almonds, cashews) as a snack. Everything I've read says that nuts supply nutrients and protein along with the good kind of fat. Almonds are also appetite supressants. (They ward off hunger pangs) Also, you might try a protein shake every day. They seem to fill you up as well. Sorry, I don't know about the calorie thing. This is my question too. Isn't 2000 calories a day for the average person, so maybe for the active person we would need more?

Eat more! Your metabolism machine is in full gear with training and to deny it fuel just limits you.

I tried to find an old forum where I had the same problem...how many calories? Here is a sight that can estimate what you burn from normal daily activities. From here you can see what you need to consume to lose, stabilize or gain weight. I was actually surprised that I burn 2800 a day from my daily activities.

I think this has been mentioned before - but Fitday.com is another great (free!) site. You can track calories, set goals etc. It may be really helpful for you to track to protein vs carbs vs fat etc to see what mix helps you not be so hungry all the time.
