It was announced today that the Savannah Rock n Roll Marathon and Half Marathon Route had changed for this year. It looks like they tried to incorporate more of the areas that had higher energy last year and a little bit less of the Truman Parkway.

Unless I remember wrong, it looks like you now come back into downtown earlier in the race (less time west of the historic area). The course then winds around more of the historic downtown area, rather than just cutting through it (including running around 2 squares). I think they also changed the route through the Gordonston area just slightly.

The big change comes after the split, in that the course never goes south of DeRenne (where we got on the Truman last year). Instead, the course winds through the Savannah State campus. Last year we just ran past the campus, but it was one of the highest energy portions of the course, which is why they decided to spend more time there according the story I read. It also winds through the Ardsley Park area more, which has some really nice homes and oak trees.

Here's a copy of the route. It doesn't have the bands or water stations labelled yet. My first impression is that it looks better than last year's course. I'm doing the half instead of the full this year so I can run with my wife - it will be her first half marathon.

Staying off the Truman Parkway is smart.  That section sucked.  The rest of the race and town were awesome!

Agreed, it sucked! That was the lowest point mentally for me, so boring!

The best review of heard of that section is "It's not as bad as everyone says". I don't think I've heard anyone say good things about it though. Unfortunately, you still have to run on it to get south of Victory drive without shutting the Islands off from the rest of the city. The first time on the Truman (heading south) will be a little bit longer than last year, but the second time will be a lot shorter.

hopefully it's not too bad since I just signed up for the race last night! looking forward to a much flatter course compared to Rock and Roll Nashville this year which was beyond hilly and tough!
