Swim
Comments: This felt like a reasonably strong swim. *Reasonably.* There isn't much to report on with this one actually. It's my third time doing it, and it was (barely) my quickest one. Pacing was right about perfect, and I actually went straight. My sighting has gotten much better, and even though I went a fair bit outside of the line, it was still pretty close. I could have pushed harder, but it was nice to keep things under control. What would you do differently?: Maybe sight a little better, maybe push a little harder. Transition 1
Comments: My wetsuit has been increasingly difficult to remove from my arms lately. I'm not sure why this is. I will start lubricating the arms of the wetsuit from now on. It also got stuck on my heels, but that's nothing new. What would you do differently?: Lube the arms! Bike
Comments: This was a super bike! It started off a little slow to get into my shoes, but I picked things up and kept strong heading up to the hill on 6th Line. As usual I was slow climbing, but at least I was moving quicker than those people walking their bikes. From there I kept a steady, but hard pace. I laid off a bit in the middle for some reason and just maintained. Once we hit the slight downhill (and tailwind) of the return, I stepped things up hard. I had a fun cat-and-mouse game with Cesar. Super fun to run into him on course. Every 5k when the autolap went off I was in disbelief with how fast I was going. I averaged 10k at 39.4 km/h, including the insane descent down 6th Line. I have never hit 80 km/h before, but I did it there. Insane. At the bottom of the hill I passed a couple cyclists on the inside. I actually locked up the rear tire coming up to the turn. Amazing. What would you do differently?: Keep my tempo up a little better during the mushy second half. Transition 2
Comments: Just a strong transition. I'm using socks. What would you do differently?: Nothing Run
Comments: The side effect of being a relatively strong swimmer and biker is you get passed a lot in the run. I got passed a lot. It was really awesome to see how well I was doing relative to everyone else. After the turnaround, I saw so many people coming in the other direction that I thought would have been much faster than me. It was hard to push on as hard as I was, and I did start to notice a bit of IT band pain creeping in after a couple km. After the turnaround there was a big descent where it *really* started to kick in. I probably shouldn't have pushed through it, but I really wanted to finish this race strongly. I kept pushing through in the end, and came in just 20 seconds shy of my best-case scenario time. Super super race. I thought it was my best bike split, but apparently I was a couple points faster in Belwood last year. Although the course was slightly longer (reported by GPS) in Belwood, and I didn't have a run to do after. Just perfect. I didn't drink much on the run. Just a little water to settle my stomach a little bit. What would you do differently?: Not have IT band pain! Post race
Warm down: Hung out, stretched and cheered everyone else on! What limited your ability to perform faster: The run. Always the run. Last updated: 2012-06-11 12:00 AM

Had a coffee and a plain bagel, drank some Sustained Energy. Drove out to the event early and hung out.
A quick run along the end of the course, and a quick swim just before the race.
