Total Time = 1h 19m 7s
Overall Rank = 43/193
Age Group = 35-39
Age Group Rank = 4/34
Pre-race routine:

Half a peanut butter bagel, and a lot of wondering why I do this.
Event warmup:

Took a short ride to make sure my bike was in the right gear, but missed the chance to get in the water. That's one of the bad things about this race is that it is very hard to get a swim warmup in relatively close to your wave start.
Swim
  • 10m 54s
  • 600 meters
  • 01m 49s / 100 meters
Comments:

PA system wasn't working so I couldn't hear the countdown or the official start. Heard the crowd yell go and saw movement so I dove forward and took off at a good pace. Started on the inside line towards the first buoy, which is my favorite strategy.

Started out well, but had to back off a bit at about 200m because I hadn't warmed up properly. Probably cost me 20 seconds overall. Felt good once I got my breath back and started picking people off. Had someone going stroke for stroke with me through about 350m, so I had to pick it up a bit to drop him.
What would you do differently?:

Get in a better warm up.
Transition 1
  • 02m 11s
Comments:

First attempt at mounting bike with shoes already clipped into pedals. Not bad, could've been slightly smoother. Long transition run. Still slight difficulty getting out of the wetsuit.
What would you do differently?:

Need to improve on removing wetsuit quickly, but not bad.
Bike
  • 36m 47s
  • 12.4 miles
  • 20.23 mile/hr
Comments:

Felt good on the bike. Sprint turnaround could've been marked better. Only got passed a few times early, other than that I was picking people off the entire ride.
What would you do differently?:

Need to push the last 3 miles a little harder. Had too much left. Also came out of shoes too early because it was my first time doing that.
Transition 2
  • 01m 45s
Comments:

Long transition with too many people getting in the way. Crowded rack made it tough to get the bike on over my bag, despite being the first one back to the rack.
What would you do differently?:

Not much.
Run
  • 27m 29s
  • 3.1 miles
  • 08m 52s  min/mile
Comments:

Mediocre run, didn't push it quite enough. No confidence in my run.
What would you do differently?:

Push harder after half a mile. Just need to train the run a lot harder.
Post race
Warm down:

Water, oranges, and standing at the finish line watching friends come in. No good warm down.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

A very weak running ability.

Event comments:

Good race, just small things to improve on. Great job for being in their second year.
