Anyone doing this one?  This will be my third attempt at an open water swim and hope to complete it without doing the back stroke, breast stroke, or generally feeling like I've seen my family for the last time.

Who's with me?

Me!  I will be there.  I am headed out this weekend to swim and bike the course on Saturday morning with the local tri club!  My husband will also be out there too!

Is there a secret handshake or something BTer's do to find each other before the race?

I'm pretty new to this and would like to meet some of you.  I'll be the one in transition with a Cervelo if that helps.

I am doing this race.  This weekend is the Pflugerville Tri.  Hopefully I will have a good race.

Looking forward to Gator.  I will have a red Beefteam shirt on and a Giant Defy bike.  I wish I had a Cervelo S2.   I can justify the $, but I do not think the wife would.

I hope everybody can come.  Next week I may talk some smack about the superior Austin Tri folks over the SA people.

The Lake Pflugerville Tri was great today.  I hope everyone had a Happy Fathers Day.  As soon as the results are online I will do a race report.  Very crowded 820 people.

Now looking foward to Gator.  I noticed the bike is 3 miles shorter than Pflugerville, but the run is an extra mile, 4 miles.  Of course the bike course will be hilly it will most likely seem 3 miles longer.

Best of luck to all.

Checked out the packet pickup info, and found that they are doing it TT style, starting 3 at a time based on your bib number.  Based on that, I hope I get a descent race number for a earlier swim start!

I saw this also - maybe this format can get me over the hump on my race start jitters.

Yes. The TT start is the custom for this race afaik. At least it was that way last year. But I think that last year they even let us self seed in groups of 3 based on expected swim time.

It was my first lake swim race. If it were not for a vacation in canada (and a 70.3 that just happens to be going on where we are staying...) I would be there. Have fun!

Have a great race dude!  One of these days we'll be at the same race.

Looking forward to this one.  I haven't seen anything official, but based on the lake temps I've seen online (77-81?) I'm guessing it will not be wetsuit legal?

The race flyer talks about a 'steep hill' - no surprise - it is the hill country after all.

But how hilly is the rest of this ride - I'm in Houston so ant hills are pretty much all I see in the way of hills.

Go over to any of the Map my sites and plot course. You will be leaving lake area East to I-10 Access Rd and up Ranger Creek Road... about a 300' climb somewhere around mile 3.5 up to plateau at about mile 6 then flat to turn around reverse same course... down the hill and small very light rollers back to park.

I  mapped out what I think the bike leg is for Gatorbait here: http://www.mapmyride.com/routes/view/93596061

The "Heartbreak Hill" they mention is the one at the turnaround, the 6.5 mile mark I think.

The grade on that hill looks pretty steep, maybe 20% at the steepest?  But its a fairly short climb.

Only 400 feet of climbing for the entire 13 miles though, so overall not that hilly.  Just the one good one that will hurt for a few min.

god. I forgot about that hill. It is short but it is steep. Like I saw people getting off to walk steep. and the turn around is at the top. Pretty awkward.

I was in that lake last weekend. It is warm warm like a bathtub. Last year I didnt wear a wetsuit and I cant remember anyone else wearing one either.

I'd go in mentally prepared to not be able to wear the suit.

Murky.  It is also like walking through seaweed when you get past the boat ramp.
