Overall Rank = 11/186
Age Group = M 40-44
Age Group Rank = 2/17
Pre-race routine:

The ususal, cereal, cup of coffee, 1/2 bagel. Long drive to the event, so that was new.
Event warmup:

Jogged arouind a bit, swam 100 yards.
Swim
  • 04m 2s
  • 200 meters
  • 02m 01s / 100 meters
Comments:

Time out of the pool was probably more in the 3:30 range, so I am pretty happy with this swim. Seated myself high so I would not be in a traffic jam and was concerned I would get passed in the water. Actually passed 2 people and was passed by only 1, finished 5th in AG in swim, so i was seated just right.
What would you do differently?:

Swim more, only 3rd swim of yearm but second triathlon.
Transition 1
  • 00m 32s
Comments:

Good transition, 4th best in race. Had a little trouble getting into shoes, but that probably cost me nothing because I would have been in the same traffic going into the 1st turn regardless.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing
Bike
  • 46m 57s
  • 16.9 miles
  • 21.60 mile/hr
Comments:

Overall a good ride. My ranking shows I still have opportunity, I do not get out ridden by almost a minute by anybody on any course when I am in shape. My AG win was accomplished bu my swim/Run/Transitions, I actually almost lost it on the bike. That has NEVER happened!!
What would you do differently?:

Need more long distance riding, hills, speedwork and less weight. the biggest help will be off the trainer and out on the roads.
Transition 2
  • 00m 33s
Comments:

Another great transition, 4th best by seconds. Super happy with how both transitions went.
Run
  • 22m 10s
  • 2.9 miles
  • 07m 40s  min/mile
Comments:

Overall a good run, I did not feel like I pushed it nearly as hard as i did in Murfreesboro. I screwed around with my garmin the first 1/3 mile rather than just getting into a flow and that threw my entire run mojo off. i somehow put together a pretty good run, but feel like I left some time on the table believe it or not.
What would you do differently?:

Push Harder
Post race
Warm down:

Walked around, waited for Steve, cheered him through T2 and at the finish.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Weight mostly.

Event comments:

This race course was designed for me. Short swim, really super hard bike, medium run. The RD did an AMAZING job given how cheap the race was. I would be willing to pay a little more for a few more bells and whistles and/or to give more to the charity. I will be back for sure!!

Course: This race gets it's name from the difficult bike course. The hills are crazy and it is pretty technical with some pretty major turns at the bottoms of some of the hills. RD comments say a good biker will average 16-20 MPH, so 21.61 must be good. Finished 8th overall on bike and 3rd in AG, which is OK but tells me I still have work here.
