Pre-race routine:

Up at 0430 to eat a bowl of Raisin Bran. Had packed everything the night before, so relaxed. Left the house around 0515. Had a 45 minute drive to the race.

The parking was next to the transition area. Best set up I've seen.
Event warmup:

Easy run for about 10 minutes.
Run
  • 15m 11s
  • 2 miles
  • 07m 35s  min/mile
Comments:

No traffic on first leg. I felt great, and slowed down my pace as I hadn't ridden my bike at all this year. None. I knew I would need the energy later.
What would you do differently?:

Probably should have slowed even more to around 8:00 pace.
Transition 1
  • 01m 3s
Comments:

Everything went well.
What would you do differently?:

Maybe attach shoes to bike someday.

Comments:

This was the first time on the bike this year. Good chance to see how running maintains bike fitness. Last year riding alot, I averaged a little over 20 mph in sprint distances. My bike fitness changed very little on this longer course. I was even able to stay in aero position entire time.
What would you do differently?:

Probably should have slowed more on the bike due to my lack of riding. Paid for it on the next 5 mile run leg.
Transition 2
  • 01m 22s
Comments:

Racked bike in wrong location. Luckily just 10 feet down, but still probably cost me 10 seconds to realize what was wrong and then fix it.
What would you do differently?:

Not miss my rack location
Run
  • 44m 59s
  • 5 miles

Comments:

Run was big disappointment, due to fatigue from bike ride. I had to pay the piper for no bike training this year. My back was stiff from staying aero, so my pace started in the mid 8s. I slowly picked up the pace, and was aiming to get to @7:30s. That didn't happen though. Continually slowed over the last two miles. I didn't drink much, but poured water over myself at each aid station.
What would you do differently?:

Either bike more (any), or back off on bike more during races.
Post race
What limited your ability to perform faster:

No bike training for the year. Can't complain as I did get my first multisport podium spot since starting out 2 years ago.

Event comments:

Just getting to the podium finally made this race for me! I decided to focus on running this year, so was surprised to place in duathlon. The great parking makes this a must do next year also.
