Overcast
Total Time = 1h 09m 16s
Overall Rank = 8/163
Age Group = 35-39
Age Group Rank = 2/19
Pre-race routine:

Woke up at 4:30 ate banana, granola bar and drank a bottle of water...Loaded the kids and wife and headed out to Oregon.
Event warmup:

Did a little stretching and swam about a 100 yards in the lake prior to the race.
Swim
  • 12m 3s
  • 820 yards
  • 01m 28s / 100 yards
Comments:

I liked the wave start as people went across the timing mat...rather than a huge start of 300+ people all at once, that gets a little rough. I found this out last year at a different race starting at the front and getting rolled over by about 100 people...
What would you do differently?:

Push a little harder. I had plenty left when I hit the shore.
Transition 1
  • 00m 48s
Comments:

Had a heck of a time getting clipped into my bike pedals
What would you do differently?:

Think about starting with shoes on the pedals.
Bike
  • 34m 11s
  • 14.29 miles
  • 25.08 mile/hr
Comments:

I pushed it really hard on the bike. I had just got a new bike and I wanted to push it and see what it could do on race day...over 25 mph average means it lives up to it's name....white lightning...
What would you do differently?:

Not too much...other than drink more.
Transition 2
  • 00m 39s
Comments:

I felt quick enough...I finally took a gulp of water after not touching it the whole ride
What would you do differently?:

Drink on the ride.
Run
  • 21m 34s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 06m 56s  min/mile
Comments:

My legs were gone off the bike...almost felt like my calves were going to cramp up...so I took a lot of water and ran at an easy pace...as the race went on I ran faster the next two miles.
What would you do differently?:

drink more coming off the bike or even on the bike so my calves wouldn't be so likely to cramp coming off the bike.
Post race
Warm down:

a few cups of water and a banana and then into the lake for a few minutes to cool off.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

time away from wife & kids.

Event comments:

I like the layout of the race and will probably do it again in the future.
