Subject: TC Tri Cancelled

Taken from MN Tri on Facebook. Twin Cities Triathlon has been cancelled.
What happened there?

It was recently announced that the Twin Cities Triathlon is cancelled for 2012! I know it's disappointing...Good news for those that registered is that Waseca Tri (1/3 Iron or Sprint) still has openings! Don't miss out on competing/training! this a fabulous event that the community of waseca absolutely embraces! July 29th. http://www.finalstretch.com/triathlon-events/waseca-tri/info/

Waseca is the following weekend.  TC Tri is (was, i guess) the same weekend as Chisago Lakes.

I'd bet that points 1 and 2 are right on the money though.

?I volunteered at this event last year and was looking forward to racing it this year, so this bums me out.

It also leaves me looking for a race to replace it.  I'm considering Heart of the Lakes or possibly even the half at Chisago.

I was looking forward to this one.  When I got their cancellation email with no explanation I was a little put off.  At least they are giving full refunds.  Good thing Chisago is that weekend.  I went ahead and signed up for Sprint.  I am pretty sure Foggy is right on the mark with his analysis.

If you can still get into Heart of the Lakes this is a class act event. Arguably the best Tri in the state. Chisago half is also a good race to do. I have done it 4-5 times and there are some issues with the organizer but something just keeps pulling me back. Good course for a first timer doing a HIM if you can take the heat.

Kris, the race director, told me this on FB: "Guys, it was not an easy choice, trust me, but due to a combination of external and internal issues, we were forced to make that hard decision for this year. I am truly sorry."

So yeah... vague.

2 other things are the Mississippi is really high right now, and Ohio Hill is totally torn up at the top and is all gravel. That would make the swim very dangerous and the first part of the bike course would have to be changed.

In addition to the river issues and Ohio construction, I have to assume that getting the police presence is hard (expensive, etc). I swear there were 200+ LEOs on the scene last year, for what is a VERY urban bike route with a lot of difficult and dangerous road crossings.  I am sure it was a logistical nightmare.

I'd guess that it being on the same weekend as Chisago is a big nail in that coffin, too.

Anyway, I thought it was a cool event and I am glad I could do it last year!  I will NEVER forget swimming in the river.  Well, not so much swimming but drifting.
