What would you do differently?:

This is tough: Since the weather can change drastically going from Palo Alto, I opted to wear a windbreaker and arm warmers. Given yesterday's weather, it would have been best to leave that stuff in the car. Yet, one can never tell what the weather will be like up on Skyline Drive or on the Santa Cruz side of the mountains, so decided I'd rather be too warm, than too cold. As I was climbing the second hill, I was definately cursing my desicion to wear the windbreaker, and the arm warmers had long since found their way into my pockets.

Warm down:

Stretch, change clothes, drink water.

Event comments:

This was a very well-supported century ride. The food was great, and it was not necessary to carry much more than a couple of my own GUs, just in case. Cliff Bar sponsored this ride so there was plenty of their own brand of gels and energy bars at the stops. Plenty of bathrooms at each stop, and nutritious foods - lunch was awesom. Thankfully, they didn't stock their food tables with pastries, like some other rides I've done.

hey, i did the Sequoia last year, but only the metric century. i hear ya about the weather! it was hot down in Palo Alto and a freezing wind blowing up on Skyline!

the you do put on quite a buffet for the aids stations.

about the Garmin reading: i got the 205 and the elevation reading jumps around a lot if it loses a satellite or 2. i've found i'm better off mapping the .gpx of the course with a software that calculates the elevation by means of USGS topographical data.

you probably did climb quite a bit more than the 8000' claimed if they used an altimeter.

cheers!

I entered my data into the www.bimactive.com web site, and I'm waiting for it to create a USGS map for me.  It's taking it's own sweet time.

if you send me the .gpx i could do a Topofusion analysis for you - one more geek's evaluation can't hurt!

Great job. You can tell you're in the crazy zone when 102 miles on the bike is a "training ride" for another race.

Thanks.  I've got a couple of hill climb races coming up so yesterday was good practise.
